Unlike other years when he had to stay at the theater to perform, this year, Cuong wrote a leave application 1 month in advance to reunite with his family. On the 27th of Tet (February 6th), this circus actor was at home to celebrate a cozy Tet with his parents and younger brother.

“Last year, I couldn’t go home to celebrate Tet, so my parents weren’t happy, and the family meal was not complete. This year, being able to cook with my mother, prepare the food, receive lucky money, and visit my grandparents… I feel like I’m living the Tet holidays of my childhood. This year, I was asked when I would get married, I felt embarrassed but happy,” Cuong shared.

Seeing her son coming home for Tet, Mrs. Phung Thi Thanh Binh (45 years old, Cuong's mother), living in Ba Vi district, Hanoi, said: "Cuong has been away from home to study since he was young, so his parents have little time to be close to him. Every time he comes home, the whole family is very happy. Last year, Cuong could not come home for Tet, so the whole family was sad, but we had to try to encourage him to perform well. This year, the whole family is reunited, so I am extremely happy."

This year, Phung Minh Cuong asked for leave to go home to celebrate Tet with his family.

Once, when the lecturers of the Vietnam Circus and Variety Arts College came to Phu Son High School, Ba Vi District, Hanoi, to look for talented students to train circus skills, Cuong was chosen. Cuong said that the first two years of circus training were very difficult because he had to regularly practice stretching and physical training with high intensity. Cuong often faced pain due to injuries, and his hip joints were stretched due to stretching...

Cuong said that at first he felt discouraged and wanted to give up because he had to practice hard for about 8 hours every day and missed home very much. However, with his will, effort and the help of his teachers, Cuong was able to overcome 2 years of learning basic skills while some of his friends gave up and returned home.

From the third year, Cuong was given intensive training in juggling skills by the teachers at the circus school. At first, Cuong and the other students had difficulty understanding each other during practice, leading to accidentally throwing sticks at each other.

Phung Minh Cuong is often chosen to perform in important positions in circus acts.

After a long period of hard training, at the age of 16, Cuong performed his first group juggling act at the experimental theater of the Vietnam Circus and Variety Arts College. Standing in the brightest spot of the auditorium for the first time, receiving applause and cheers from the audience made Cuong realize that he had chosen the right career.

“Circus is a very hard job. We only have a few minutes to shine on stage, but we have to practice hard for months, even years. Not to mention that if we are unlucky enough to get injured, it can threaten our health and life. The most serious injury I have ever had was a torn bicep that took 2 weeks to heal. I am always careful to ensure the safety of myself and my teammates,” said Cuong.

In 2020, after graduating from the Vietnam Circus and Variety Arts College and high school, Cuong went to Phu Quoc City (Kien Giang Province) to perform at a famous tourist destination. Despite his good income, Cuong could not satisfy his passion, so he stopped working in Phu Quoc and returned to Ho Chi Minh City to apply to perform at the Phuong Nam Art Theater in 2022.

“Youth is very short, so you have to "burn" yourself out with passion. After coming to Ho Chi Minh City, I learned rope swinging skills, participated in group cycling... in addition to my strength in juggling. Practicing and experiencing new things every day makes me very happy. I will live my life to the fullest with this profession until my health no longer allows it,” Cuong shared.

In 2022, Cuong participated in a group cycling performance called "Soul of the Countryside" and together with his teammates won a silver medal at the International Circus Festival held in Hanoi. In the future, Cuong hopes to achieve success in the juggling performance.
