While cooking with a mini gas stove, the gas tank suddenly exploded, causing Mr. N.D.H. (48 years old, residing in Tuyen Quang province) to be hospitalized with serious injuries.
Doctor Nguyen Moc Son - Department of upper limb surgery and sports medicine, Viet Duc Hospital - said that Mr. H. was hospitalized with serious injuries.
“The patient had a crushed right leg, an open fracture of the left leg, complex injuries to both hands, and closed abdominal trauma.
Due to the severity of the injury, the patient had to undergo amputation of 1/3 of his right leg. At the same time, the stumps of the 4th and 5th fingers were repaired and the wounds on both hands were treated,” said Dr. Son.
Doctors also warned that during the days leading up to Tet, the use of mini gas cylinders for cooking at home is becoming more and more popular, but at the same time there are many potential risks of accidents due to improper use.
Doctors warn that this is one of many cases where people used mini gas cylinders that exploded and caused injuries. Therefore, people need to be careful when using mini gas cylinders of unknown origin. When injured, the patient must go immediately to the nearest medical facility for timely treatment.
“Many patients, after being treated at the hospital, buy herbal medicine and leaves to apply to their wounds, leading to infection. To avoid the risk of wound infection, people should not apply leaves to their wounds on their own. They should go to medical facilities for regular check-ups and examinations,” Dr. Son advised.
