President Zelensky announced: “I have just signed a decree to initiate the process of creating a separate unit within the VSU - the UAV systems unit.”
Meanwhile, Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov said that the UAV unit will give a “strong impetus” to the technological development of the Ukrainian army.
According to him, over the past year, UAVs “have fundamentally changed the situation on the battlefield. They are effective in deterring Russia and supporting VSU counterattacks.”
Last December, President Zelensky pledged that Ukraine would produce 1 million UAVs by 2024. Meanwhile, government officials revealed that Kiev aims to produce tens of thousands of UAVs per month.
There are no current production figures, but since the start of the conflict with Russia (February 2022), UAV production has skyrocketed, with dozens of companies developing and producing different models.
