The worst snowstorm forecast to hit some US states in a decade has disrupted the lives of tens of millions of people.
About 30 states in the US with a total population of more than 60 million people are being affected by the snowstorm. As of the afternoon of January 5, US time, 7 states including Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri and New Jersey have declared a state of emergency, NBC News reported.
Weather forecasters say the severe weather was caused by cold air circulating around the Arctic.

The NWS bulletin said the storm could bring record snowfall and icy conditions to the south. A pressure system moving from west to east has brought extreme weather to the central states. About 80,000 homes in the states lost power during the storm.
