The $5 million golden card is part of a plan to reform the EB-5 visa program to attract foreign investors and reduce the national debt.

According to Mr. Trump's announcement, the gold card not only provides green card-like benefits to foreign citizens but also promises to be an attractive investment opportunity for the wealthy.

"This card will be yours for $5 million," Mr. Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One. "This is the first card. You know what this card is? It's the gold card - the Trump card."

He also claimed that he was the first buyer but was unsure who the second buyer was. He said the card "will probably be released in less than two weeks."

These gold cards are sold for $5 million each.

It is part of Mr Trump's plan to overhaul the EB-5 visa programme, making it quicker and easier for wealthy foreigners to get green cards.

According to Mr. Trump, those willing to invest 5 million USD in the US will receive benefits similar to a green card, which will bring permanent residency in the US and the opportunity to become citizens.

Last month, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said more than 1,000 gold cards had been sold and as many as 37 million people globally could be eligible to buy one.

Mr. Lutnick explained that with more than 250,000 people waiting for EB-5 cards, selling golden cards could help reduce the national debt, estimated at $36.5 trillion.
