Lost 100 million VND because of installing fake "Public Service" app

The police do not provide guidance or confirm population data information via phone calls. In case of suspicion of fraudulent property appropriation, promptly notify the police for timely prevention and guidance on how to resolve the matter.

The Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department, Binh Phuoc Provincial Police, said it had received a complaint from Mr. HVN, residing in Minh Thanh Ward, Chon Thanh Town, reporting that a subject used the trick of impersonating a police agency to call and request confirmation of resident data information and then appropriated money in his bank account.

By impersonating a police officer of Chon Thanh town, the subject used a "spam" phone number to call Mr. HVN to guide him in confirming the population data information. Then the subject made friends via Zalo and sent the link https://dichvucong.nfgov.com (a fake website with an interface similar to the "public service" portal) and instructed Mr. N. to access and download the "Public service" app with the information section "National online information portal" to his mobile phone and install it.

The subject asked Mr. HVN to install the fake application "Public Services" on his phone to scam.

After installing the app, Mr. N. declared and filled in all his personal information. A moment later, Mr. N. discovered that the entire amount of 100 million VND in his bank account had been deducted. Checking the transaction history, he discovered that the money in the bank account had been transferred to an account with an address in Da Nang.

The case is currently being handled by the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department of Binh Phuoc Provincial Police.

Through this incident, the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention recommends that people should raise their awareness of the above-mentioned fraudulent appropriation of property. The police agency does not provide guidance or confirm information about population data via phone calls. In case of suspicion of fraudulent appropriation of property, promptly notify the police agency for timely prevention and guidance on how to handle the situation.
