The Drug Administration of Vietnam shows people how to identify fake and real drugs.

On the afternoon of April 17, Deputy Director of the Department of Drug Administration (Ministry of Health) Ta Manh Hung informed the press about the fight against counterfeit drugs related to the Thanh Hoa Provincial Police having just dismantled a large-scale nationwide counterfeit drug production and trading ring, arresting 14 subjects for the crime of producing and trading counterfeit disease prevention and treatment drugs.

Dr. Ta Manh Hung said that the authorities have not yet discovered the products in the case at medical facilities; the products counterfeited by the subjects cannot penetrate the public hospital system because they do not have documents or certificates to participate in bidding. These counterfeit products are mainly sold online; at retail channels.

Among the 21 types of products seized by the police, there were 4 types of fake modern medicine (44 boxes of Tetracycline, 40 boxes of Clorocid, 49 boxes of Pharcoter, 52 boxes of Neo-Codion); the remaining 39,323 boxes included 17 types of fake products suspected to be oriental medicine, products with labels stating the intended use as medicine.

Dr. Ta Manh Hung also shared that drugs are divided into many different categories, including vaccines and biological products. For vaccines and biological products, 100% are inspected, evaluated, and tested before being released from the factory; for chemical drugs, modern drugs, medicinal herbs, and traditional medicines, samples are taken to check quality. In addition, the competent authority also focuses on taking samples of drugs with a high risk of counterfeiting or that may not ensure quality during circulation.

Dr. Ta Manh Hung said that people can look up medicine themselves on the Public Service Portal.

"According to regulations, drugs must be granted a circulation registration certificate before being circulated on the market. All information about drugs granted a circulation registration certificate is made public on the national public service portal. People can look it up via the Public Service Portal: https://dichvucong.dav.gov.vn/congbothuoc", said Dr. Ta Manh Hung.

The leader of the Drug Administration Department added that we currently have very strict regulations from the registration stage; production, circulation. Regarding the licensing of production and business activities, because this is a conditional business line, we must strictly comply with the regulations.

" All drugs are licensed for safety and effectiveness before being circulated; during the circulation process, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Health Inspectorate, the Department of Health, and the Department Inspectorate all conduct planned inspections and checks as well as surprise inspections and checks when there are complaints for timely handling," said Mr. Hung.

In addition, according to Mr. Ta Manh Hung, in the fight against counterfeit drugs, in addition to the Ministry of Health, the Departments of Health, and agencies under the health sector, there is also the coordination of the Market Management Force and the Police in coordinating to inspect and supervise the prevention and fight against counterfeit drugs. In the coming time, there will certainly be a need for closer coordination between the authorities so that the work of preventing and fighting counterfeit drugs can achieve better results.
