On the X mobile app, the timeline doesn't refresh, and on the web version, only the welcome text appears: “Welcome to X! The best place to see what's happening in the world. Find people and topics to follow.”

According to global internet tracker Netblocks, the service disruption was large-scale, global, and not related to censorship by any single country.

After more than an hour, X was restored to operation, although it was unclear what caused the problem.

On DownDetector, reports of the outage appeared to have started around midnight on December 20. At its peak, 77,000 people had reported it. Users flocked to other social media sites like Facebook and Threads to discuss the issue.

Since joining Elon Musk, X has undergone many changes, including laying off a large portion of its staff, including many engineers responsible for repairing and preventing service disruptions.

According to The Verge, this is not the only major issue with X in recent days. Last week, X had an error related to external links for several hours.

As usual, the platform's PR account simply responded with an automated message: "Busy, check back later." So anyone paying for X will have to look elsewhere for information about X.
