It is known that this is Klook's Travel Pulse survey conducted in November 2023 through Milieu with a total of 2,600 respondents across 13 markets including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, South Korea, Japan, Australia, mainland China, India and Indonesia.
Mr. Nguyen Huy Hoang, CEO of Klook Vietnam shares travel trends in 2023
Accordingly, Asia-Pacific travelers are willing to increase their budgets to get the most out of their trips in 2024, with 3 in 5 willing to spend at least 30% to 50% more on their vacations, a significant increase from the estimated average travel spend of US$2,000 in 2023.
This spending is driven by experiences that provide meaningful connection and impact, with travelers willing to spend up to half of their budget on experiences and activities despite rising costs due to global inflation. Vietnamese travelers are even more invested in experiences, with 17% willing to spend more than half of their travel budget on experiences – one of the highest figures in Asia Pacific.
Klook's latest Travel Pulse survey also found that 65% of travelers are opting for more frequent, short-term vacations instead of taking long-term trips.
Mr. Nguyen Huy Hoang, Managing Director of Klook Vietnam, commented that these travel trends are a reflection of the post-pandemic world, when the isolation and digitalization that thrived during the pandemic now make people crave connection more than ever.
Additionally, 96% of Asia Pacific travelers actively post and share their adventures on social media, with nearly half doing so to capture the moment. Posting content about their journeys on social media is not just about archiving, but also about sharing their experiences with others. This act of sharing online becomes a way to record and cherish memories with their social connections, as these shared experiences become permanent in their digital lives.
The trustworthiness of online travel recommendations is also on the rise, with non-celebrities becoming the most trusted source of travel recommendations. Over 80% of Asia Pacific travelers and up to 91% of Vietnamese travelers book travel services based on recommendations and reviews from content creators, with video being the most popular format for Vietnamese (63%) due to its strong visual appeal.
The most popular social media platforms frequently used by Asia-Pacific travelers, including Vietnamese, for travel inspiration are Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. Vietnamese people lead the Asia-Pacific region in using Facebook (95%) and TikTok (83%) as their travel inspiration platforms.
