Although it only took place for 3 days from July 12 to 14, the International Cultural - Culinary Festival “Taste of the Land of Sunflowers”, a key activity in the series of events of the Festival for Peace, made a strong impression on tourists and locals. Many delicious and attractive dishes, carrying the typical cultural features of localities in and outside the country, were introduced at this festival.

Diverse cuisine of 3 regions
Arriving early at the International Cultural - Culinary Festival “Taste of the Land of Sunny Flowers”, Mr. Nguyen Van Long (35 years old), a tourist from Quang Binh, and his family members were very excited to visit the booths and enjoy the cuisine. Although he admits to being a foodie and having participated in many different culinary festivals, this festival still left a special impression on his family.

“The festival is very grand, gathering cuisines from many regions here. Of all the dishes, my family likes the refreshing taste of Mai Xa mussel vermicelli the most. Watching the chefs prepare and present the dish simply, but when enjoying it, this dish is very attractive to tourists.
"I hope my family will return to Quang Tri to enjoy Mai Xa mussel vermicelli and explore more of the cuisine of this land," Mr. Long happily said. At the "Taste of the Sunny Land" International Cultural - Culinary Festival, in addition to Mai Xa mussel vermicelli, Quang Tri province also introduced to friends everywhere dishes imbued with local identity such as: Nem cha Cho Sai, Cua chicken, Gio An pork tray, Hai Lang porridge, Cua Viet seafood, dishes of the Van Kieu and Pa Ko people, vegetarian dishes and OCOP products.
In addition to Quang Tri specialties, visitors can also enjoy delicious dishes from many other localities in the country such as: Western pancakes, Nghe An eel soup, Quang Nam cassava pho... According to many diners, each dish has its own unique flavor, both strange and familiar.
Through the festival, people not only experience the diversity in cuisine but also learn about the unique cultural features of different regions in the country. Among the countless delicious dishes at the festival, a group of young people from Thao Nguyen, Hoang Son, Vu Long (Vinh Linh) showed their interest in the beef and goat thang co, a dish that is typical of the Northwest highlands.
According to the explanation from the owner of the stall “Ha Giang Stone Plateau Cuisine”, thang co means meat soup, so the ingredients used to prepare this dish are mainly meat and offal, heart, liver, lungs, simmered with herbs from the mountains and forests.
“This dish has a strong smell of animal intestines, but when you eat it, it is very “addictive”, you cannot stop eating it. We have not had the opportunity to go to the Northwest, but through this festival we have had the opportunity to enjoy the specialties there. Indeed, Vietnamese cuisine is very unique and rich,” Thao Nguyen shared.
Impressed with international cuisine
This year’s “Taste of the Sunflower Land” International Cultural and Culinary Festival has the participation of nearly 100 culinary booths from localities across the country and abroad. Notably, not only domestic delicacies but also cuisines from some countries such as Korea, Japan, Italy, Mongolia... have also won the hearts of visiting diners.
Taking advantage of his free time, Mr. Duong Van Ha, from Da Nang, who directly prepared the Mongolian tripe dish, rearranged and presented the dish to prepare for the next guests. Talking to reporters, this multi-talented chef said: “I once brought goat sausage to the 2023 Vietnamese Cultural - Culinary Festival with the theme “Soul of the Nation - Taste of the Homeland” and was very well received by diners.
Therefore, this year I continue to bring a new dish, which is Mongolian tripe wrapped in herbs. This dish was prepared by Mr. Ha who went to Mongolia to learn how to prepare it. Not only is it crispy and delicious, but it is also rich in nutrients when combined with 42 herbs.
“Through the International Cultural - Culinary Festival “Taste of the Land of Sunny Flowers”, I want to promote to Vietnamese people more about the richness of world cuisine”, Mr. Ha confided.

Similar to Mr. Ha, Ms. Le Hong Anh, the owner of the Italian food booth, was very happy to bring to the food festival three famous delicacies: Italian sausage, spaghetti and Italian ice cream. "I am sure that the delicious Italian dishes will not disappoint diners," Ms. Hong Anh introduced. Indeed, the delicious dishes in her booth all have very new and different flavors. Many visitors who have visited and enjoyed them all share this feeling.
Speaking to reporters, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ha Sy Dong said: The International Cultural - Culinary Festival "Taste of the Sunny Flower Land" is a cultural event with great influence, an opportunity to promote the cultural values, potentials and strengths of the land and people of Quang Tri to domestic and foreign tourists.
This is also one of the important activities in the series of activities of the Festival for Peace event on a national and international scale, held for the first time in Quang Tri. “Coming to the 2024 International Cultural - Culinary Festival, people will not only enjoy the typical dishes of the land of sunshine and wind but also immerse themselves in meaningful events for Peace.
