This was Man Utd's first win at Old Trafford in the Premier League since August 26. Erik ten Hag's team kept fans anxious for more than 90 minutes before bursting into joy in extra time. Within four minutes, midfielder McTominay, who came on in the 87th minute, continuously seized opportunities in the penalty area to score, reminiscent of Man Utd's habit of scoring late in the game when led by former coach Alex Ferguson.
Playing with the central defenders Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans, Man Utd fans were worried about the solidity of their defense. That worry was even more grounded when Brentford started better and launched the first shots, while the home team's attack faltered under the opponent's pressure.
