Man Utd will lose goalkeeper Andre Onana in January 2024 when the goalkeeper has to return to the Cameroon national team to participate in the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). That forces the Red Devils to calculate personnel.

During Onana's absence, Man Utd only have two goalkeeper options, Tom Heaton and Altay Bayindir, but neither has been trusted. They have had too little playing time and are not at a high level.
In that context, Man Utd is planning to make a bold decision, which is to recruit De Gea on a short-term contract. It is expected that the Red Devils will only sign a contract with the goalkeeper born in 1990 until the end of this season.
The Spanish goalkeeper has just left Old Trafford after his contract expired in June. The reason is because both sides did not agree on a contract extension. Man Utd have offered to reduce De Gea's salary from £375,000/week to £200,000/week.
In the end, this deal fell through. Besides, coach Ten Hag was not keen on keeping De Gea when he needed a goalkeeper who could play with his feet like Onana.

Since leaving Man Utd, De Gea has not found a new destination. This player has received many invitations from Saudi Arabia but he has refused them all. The reason is because De Gea still wants to play top football in Europe.
Seeing Onana make many silly mistakes since the beginning of the season, many Man Utd fans expressed regret for De Gea. However, the Cameroon goalkeeper has started to adapt to Old Trafford. Recently, he became a hero when he blocked Copenhagen's penalty kick in the last minute, helping Man Utd win a thrilling 1-0 in the Champions League.
If De Gea still wants to play for Man Utd, he can agree to a short-term offer. Onana's absence for a month is a good opportunity for the Spanish goalkeeper to prove his talent and win the position that belongs to him at Man Utd.
