On the evening of May 7 (Hanoi time), the Vietnamese swimming team entered the final of the men's 4x200m freestyle relay at the 32nd SEA Games with the goal of defending their gold medal. Surprisingly, Huy Hoang, Quy Phuoc, Hung Nguyen and Kim Son were placed in lane 7, instead of lane 4 as initially predicted.

Kim Son made his first swim. Notably, this swimmer was not in the top 3 in the first 150m. It was not until the last 50m that Kim Son accelerated and rose to 3rd place. This helped the Vietnamese swimming team not to be too far behind their opponents.

In the second round, Huy Hoang continued to lose to his opponent in the first 150m. However, he still tried to keep up with the two athletes from Singapore and Malaysia to help the Vietnamese swimming team maintain their chance to defend their gold medal.
