After consecutive losses in the first 3 rounds, the Vietnamese swimming team still chased fiercely before making a sprint to the finish line first in the men's 4x200m freestyle relay event of the 32nd SEA Games.
On the evening of May 7 (Hanoi time), the Vietnamese swimming team entered the final of the men's 4x200m freestyle relay at the 32nd SEA Games with the goal of defending their gold medal. Surprisingly, Huy Hoang, Quy Phuoc, Hung Nguyen and Kim Son were placed in lane 7, instead of lane 4 as initially predicted. |
Kim Son made his first swim. Notably, this swimmer was not in the top 3 in the first 150m. It was not until the last 50m that Kim Son accelerated and rose to 3rd place. This helped the Vietnamese swimming team not to be too far behind their opponents. |
In the second round, Huy Hoang continued to lose to his opponent in the first 150m. However, he still tried to keep up with the two athletes from Singapore and Malaysia to help the Vietnamese swimming team maintain their chance to defend their gold medal. |
When Quy Phuoc started the third lap, the Vietnamese team was even 2.4 seconds behind the Singapore team. However, the Da Nang swimmer completed his test well and helped the Vietnamese team narrow the gap to only 0.7 seconds, equivalent to 1.7 seconds shortened in this lap. |
During preparation, Hung Nguyen, who swam the last leg, appeared calm and confident as he watched his teammate Quy Phuoc gradually narrow the gap with the leading competitor. |
In his forte, Hung Nguyen accelerated strongly to surpass both opponents, thereby bringing home the gold medal. The breakthrough of the swimmer from Quang Binh was an important highlight for the Vietnamese swimming team to successfully defend the gold medal in the men's 4x200m freestyle relay. |
The Vietnamese team's achievement at SEA Games 32 was 7 minutes 18 seconds 51, less than the old record at SEA Games 31 (7 minutes 16 seconds 31). Singapore won the silver medal with 7 minutes 21 seconds 50 seconds. Malaysia finished in third place and won the bronze medal with a result of 7 minutes 21 seconds 55. |
Also on the competition day of May 7, Pham Thanh Bao won first place in the men's 100m breaststroke with a time of 1 minute 0.97 seconds. Yesterday (May 6), Hung Nguyen won a gold medal in the 200m medley. In total, the Vietnamese swimming team has won 3 gold medals at the 32nd SEA Games. |
