On December 7, in Hanoi, the International Journalism Conference "Digital Newsroom Management: Theory, Practice, and Experience in the ASEAN Region" was organized by the Vietnam Journalists Association, with the participation of 7 international delegations from the Confederation of ASEAN Journalists.

The international press conference “Digital newsroom management: Theory, practice, experience in the ASEAN region” in Hanoi was attended by 7 international delegations from the Confederation of ASEAN Journalists, including: Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore; press management agencies, press agencies, and journalism training institutions in Vietnam.
Speaking at the Workshop, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Lam emphasized: "The Vietnamese Government is very interested in the issue of digital transformation of journalism. On April 6, 2023, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 348 approving the Strategy for digital transformation of journalism to 2025, with a vision to 2030. At the end of this year, the Ministry of Information and Communications will announce the level of maturity in digital transformation of press agencies. Many Vietnamese press agencies have boldly brought their press products to cyberspace, across borders, bringing new experiences and new lessons in the process of journalism in cyberspace".
According to Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Lam, digital transformation in communications is essentially the application of increasingly modern technology to press activities, enriching the digital media ecosystem with new, superior features, helping to improve the quality and effectiveness of communications to information consumers. It is essential for ASEAN countries to share experiences and understanding of strategies and good practices in promoting and orienting domestic press and media agencies to transform digitally in a sustainable manner.
This is the largest international press conference held in Vietnam in 2023, organized by the Vietnam Journalists Association to build a scientific and practical foundation, propose experience and solutions for developing the press in Vietnam and other ASEAN countries, and is a foundational activity for continuing to discuss and propose innovative press initiatives, promoting cooperation within the ASEAN Press Confederation in particular and the ASEAN community in general in the coming time.
Mr. Le Quoc Minh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, commented: "The international press conference "Management of digital press newsrooms: Theory, practice, experience in the ASEAN region" aims to connect, exchange, share knowledge and experience in digital transformation of press among ASEAN countries, contributing to suggesting solutions to build press agencies in a professional, humane, and modern direction; effectively innovate readers' experiences; create new sources of revenue; promote the development of the digital content industry. The conference also aims to improve the quality and effectiveness of cooperation activities of the ASEAN Press Confederation, promoting the international role in the ASEAN bloc".
Speaking at the workshop, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association Nguyen Duc Loi said that digital transformation is currently a global technology trend, having a huge impact on the economic - political - social fields of countries around the world. In the field of journalism, digital transformation is the process of applying increasingly modern technology to the production and distribution of information, enriching the digital media ecosystem with new and superior features, helping to improve the quality and effectiveness of communication to the public. In addition, digital journalism promotes strong social interactions: interactions between newspapers, between newspapers and the public, between newspapers and social networks, between the public, between the public and authorities, between press agencies and policy-making and management agencies... Digital journalism creates information metadata on the network environment, connecting and mobilizing the public to solve social problems at the community, national, and international levels...
According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Loi, besides those opportunities, digital transformation also brings significant challenges, the biggest of which is the fierce competition of social networks with the characteristics of easy access, easy sharing, fast and diverse information... "Those opportunities and challenges force all press agencies in the world, including press agencies in ASEAN countries, to quickly adapt, promote and accelerate the digital transformation process. After all, the goal of digital transformation is to build press agencies in the direction of modernity, professionalism, humanity and serving society", Mr. Nguyen Duc Loi emphasized.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Loi said that the workshop focused on discussing the management of digital press offices based on the convergence of technology and content, which is the result of applying information technology in the field of journalism and media, aiming to build synchronous facilities, technical infrastructure and develop and innovate appropriate content to best serve the public.

The workshop took place in 2 sessions. The first session focused on " General theory of digital newsroom management ". In this discussion session, the presentations at the workshop delved into current issues of digital newsroom management, such as: Trends in digital journalism development in the world and ASEAN countries; Digital newsroom management - opportunities and challenges for newspapers in ASEAN countries; Digital transformation strategy for journalism in Vietnam: opportunities and challenges for press agencies; Digital platforms and digital tools in digital newsroom management; Application of technology (AI, blockchain, XR, metaverse, etc.) in building and managing digital newsrooms; Human resources for operating digital newsrooms; Digital newsroom models and issues of resource management for implementing digital newsrooms; Digital newsroom management in multi-platform, multimedia, and multi-type press complexes; Digital newsroom management in radio and television stations; Issues and solutions to build and manage digital newsrooms... Scientists, experts and journalists approached and analyzed in depth content management and digital newsroom management; digital technology applied to build digital newsrooms and press agency ecosystems; approaches to issues from the cultural industry, content industry, digital industry, economics - business - finance... Within the framework of Session 2 of the Workshop, a discussion took place on "Issues and solutions to optimize digital newsroom management in ASEAN countries".
The International Journalism Conference “Digital Journalism Newsroom Management: Theory, Practice, Experience in the ASEAN Region” is an open forum to discuss theoretical issues, share the situation, progress and suggest methods and solutions for digital transformation in journalism in Vietnam and ASEAN countries. This is the largest international journalism conference held in Vietnam in 2023, organized by the Vietnam Journalists Association to build a scientific and practical foundation, propose experiences and solutions for developing journalism in Vietnam and ASEAN countries, and is a foundational activity for continuing to discuss and propose innovative journalism initiatives, promoting cooperative relationships within the ASEAN Journalism Federation in particular and the ASEAN community in general in the coming time.
Vietnamese and international delegates attending the workshop agreed that digital transformation is a global trend that has a profound impact on all areas of the economy, politics and society of countries. For the press, digital transformation is the application of digital technology to change the model of content management, operations, production, publishing, content distribution, business, etc.; thereby optimizing newsroom management; creating quality products, new, attractive and convenient experiences and effective public access and reception, increasing new values for press agencies and the national press. A digital newsroom model, with multi-platform, multimedia journalism, data journalism and automated journalism, requires technical and technological conditions, human resources and innovation in newsroom organization and management methods.
