Peach trees are currently a high-income crop for people in Van Don district, mainly concentrated in Ha Long commune. In the commune, there are currently over 500 households growing peach trees, of which 60 households grow in concentrated areas, with an average of over 300 peach trees per garden.
The family of Mr. Nguyen Doan Tuan (village 5, Ha Long commune) has been involved in growing peach trees for many years. On a garden area of about 1.3 hectares with 3,000 peach trees planted, harvested mainly during Tet every year, the life of Mr. Tuan's family is increasingly stable. Mr. Tuan shared: "During the recent Lunar New Year, I sold about 200 trees, with a revenue of about 300 million VND, mainly from customers and traders who came to the garden to buy. After Tet, I also pruned branches, planted cushions on the sold parts of the trees, took care of them, fertilized them... so that the peach trees grow well and healthily. Currently, the family has just re-planned the peach growing area, striving to plant about 400-500 more trees each year."
By the end of 2024, the average income per capita of the district will reach 121.43 million VND/person/year (rural areas will reach 116.29 million VND/person/year; urban areas will reach 140.5 million VND/person/year). The whole district will have no more poor and near-poor households according to multidimensional criteria and according to the province's criteria. The rate of people in the whole district participating in health insurance will reach 97.3%, in rural areas will reach 98.2%. The rate of people using clean water in rural areas will reach 81.2%, in urban areas will reach 100%.
Van Don is a district with great potential for agricultural development associated with tourism due to its rich and diverse resources of agricultural types, from fruit orchards to aquaculture areas, many unique OCOP products... Currently, in the area, there are a number of agricultural production models that have built attractive tourism products such as: Growing oranges in Van Yen, Ban Sen, peach gardens in Ha Long commune, and seafood farming raft areas at sea...
In Van Yen commune, there are more than 100 households growing oranges with a total area of about 200 hectares, harvesting over 200 tons of oranges each year. With a selling price of 35,000-40,000 VND/kg, the income of each orange growing household can reach several hundred million VND/year.
Mr. Tran Van Hau, Director of Van Yen Farm Cooperative said: “Orange trees have brought many values, becoming a typical product of the district as well as ensuring the lives of local people. Many households have escaped poverty thanks to growing oranges and have more stable jobs. Van Yen oranges are increasingly known and chosen by many people. Picking ripe oranges yourself, with food services, check-in, and eco-tourism right in the garden is also an interesting and attractive experience for tourists. This model not only promotes consumption, but is also a form of spreading the Van Yen orange brand.
With the strong leadership and direction of the Party Committee and the government from the district to the grassroots level, and the solidarity of the people, the program of building new rural areas in the district has quickly come into life. Since then, people have clearly recognized their position, joined hands, contributed their efforts and money to join hands with the locality to build new rural areas, without waiting or relying on the support of the State. Commune roads, village roads, and alleys not only rely on the state budget, but are now also roads built by the people. People have spread the movement of people donating land to build roads, people supervising the construction, people enjoying the results, contributing to the journey of building a livable countryside.
