In the first round yesterday afternoon, June 7, number one seed Ly Hoang Nam had a hard-fought 2-1 win over home player Indonesia David Agung Susanto. In the second round, he faced young Malaysian talent Wei Kang Leong, 18 years old, ranked 1082nd in the ATP world.
The two players started quickly in the first set and made good use of their serves, before creating a turning point in games eight and nine. In the eighth game of serving, Hoang Nam struggled to defend two breaks to bring the score to 4-4. Immediately after that, he rose up to break in game nine, and then ended the first set with a 6-4 victory.
Despite being behind, the Malaysian player still maintained his good spirit to break in the second game of the second set. Hoang Nam tried hard to catch up and continued to show his bravery at the crucial moment. In the ninth game, taking advantage of Wei Kang Leong's double fault, Nam scored three consecutive points to break to tie the score at 5-5.
The two players won the next service game to tie the match at 6-6, taking the match to a tie-break. Hoang Nam dominated the game, often sending the ball to the two corners of the court, forcing his opponent to struggle to save the ball. The Vietnamese player led 5-0 before ending the game at 7-3, thereby winning the second set 7-6.
After 2 hours and 10 minutes of competition, Hoang Nam won the right to enter the quarterfinals of the M25 Jakarta 2023 tournament tomorrow, June 9.
