On the afternoon of December 16, the City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Long Xuyen City held a meeting to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024) and the 35th anniversary of National Defense Day (December 22, 1989 - December 22, 2024).

In the process of national renewal, the city's armed forces have always performed well the functions of a combat army, a working army, a production labor army, contributing to the achievements of the country and An Giang province in general, and Long Xuyen city in particular. On behalf of the City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the city, Secretary of the Long Xuyen City Party Committee Huynh Quoc Thai respectfully acknowledged and commended the achievements and contributions of the Long Xuyen City armed forces in the process of construction and development.
