Taste Atlas, a website dubbed the "world culinary map", on January 29, announced a list of the best coffees on the planet, including many names from Vietnam.
With 4.3/5 stars, Vietnamese iced coffee ranks 8th on the list. The rating is based on votes from readers who have had or want to try this drink when they have the chance.
"This drink is a combination of black coffee brewed with a filter, condensed milk and ice. It also has another version, consisting of just coffee and ice," Taste Atlas describes.
The famous website also emphasized that Vietnamese coffee is mainly made from robusta beans. While in many other countries around the world, arabica beans are more popular.
After roasting, robusta has a burnt sugary taste, slightly bitter. When combined with condensed milk, it will create a balance. If using arabica, the coffee will have a sour taste, combined with milk will be "not as flattering to the mouth as robusta".
Egg coffee is the next representative of Vietnam to appear on the list. With the rich taste of whipped egg yolk, the sweet taste of condensed milk and the slight bitterness of coffee, this drink is very popular with diners.
In addition, experts and readers of Taste Atlas are also particularly impressed with coffee yogurt. The ingredients to make an attractive cup of Vietnamese coffee yogurt usually include condensed milk, yogurt, crushed ice and frothy filter coffee.
Founded in 2015, Taste Atlas (headquartered in Zagreb, Croatia) is known as a map that brings together traditional dishes from around the world.
According to Matija Babić, founder of Taste Atlas , the food and beverage rankings are based on opinions and reviews from experts and food critics to ensure the reliability of the awards.
