American mercenaries "show off photos", how many people has Russia evacuated?

The World and Vietnam Newspaper updates the situation in Russia's Kursk province, two weeks after Ukraine sent troops to attack this border area.

Recently, on social networks, the American private military company Forward Observation Group (FOG) published photos of its soldiers in the ranks of the Ukrainian armed forces in Russia's Kursk province.

Russia's RT channel analyzed a photo showing FOG fighters standing next to an HMMWV armored vehicle, with the geographical indication - Kursk Oblast, and the caption: “Guys from Kursk”. In the middle of the photo is FOG founder Derrick Bales.

According to the press, Derrick Bales can be identified by “the M4A1 rifle he has carried with him since 2021”, “the smartphone visible” in almost every photo of the FOG founder, and “the distinctive skull tattoo on his right hand”.

Mr. Bales has been working with Ukrainian soldiers since before the start of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine. He himself visited Ukraine in 2022.

Regarding the situation in Kursk province, on August 19, deputy spokesman of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations Artyom Sharov said that more than 121,000 people have been safely evacuated from 9 border districts in Kursk province.

According to him, the evacuation is still ongoing, Moscow has set up 84 temporary shelters in Kursk Oblast for more than 6,500 people at the moment. Meanwhile, another 390 temporary shelters in 57 different territories across Russia, with a capacity of more than 19,000 people, are preparing to receive evacuees from Kursk.

On the same day, August 19, Reuters news agency quoted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as saying that the country's forces had taken control of more than 1,250 square kilometers and 92 settlements in Kursk province.

Mr. Zelensky also urged allies to allow Kiev to use Western weapons to strike deep inside Russian territory.
