The United Nations is currently working with the Government of Armenia to address the situation of people from Nagorno-Karabakh crossing the border into Armenia. A response plan is being finalized and the UN will appeal for financial contributions.
To date, more than 50% of the 120,000 ethnic Armenians in Nagorny-Karabakh have crossed the border into Armenia after Azerbaijan launched a military campaign on September 19.
Nagorno-Karabakh lies deep in southwestern Azerbaijan but is predominantly ethnic Armenian and wants to join Armenia, a long-running sovereignty dispute between the two neighbors.
