On March 31, the Workshop on linking the development of Binh Dinh tourism products and connecting railway tourism products between Da Nang and Khanh Hoa was held in Quy Nhon City (Binh Dinh).

Formation of tourist train on Dieu Tri station - Quy Nhon station route

The workshop aims to enhance cooperation between travel agencies, exploit the potential and strengths of tourism in each locality, especially exploiting the railway connecting localities in the region. Connecting tourist sources from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City to Binh Dinh and other provinces and cities; as well as introducing stimulus programs and new tourism products of the province.

At the workshop, Mr. Ha Trong Thang - Deputy General Director of Railway Transport Joint Stock Company - said that in tourism, trains bring unique experiences, such as the North - South route passing through many scenic spots, creating a great advantage for inter-regional tourism.

Connecting Binh Dinh with Da Nang and Khanh Hoa by rail helps to create a diverse and attractive itinerary. Trains are much safer than other means of transport, have spacious spaces, and integrate many convenient services.

According to Mr. Thang, the current 10km Quy Nhon - Dieu Tri railway line (Duy Phuoc district, Binh Dinh province) is a branch line, with only one pair of passenger trains SE29 and SE30 (Saigon - Quy Nhon) running every day. Therefore, there is still excess train capacity, very suitable for exploiting tourist trains.

The company also proposed that Binh Dinh province and travel agencies study a plan to organize 2-3 pairs of tourist trains running daily between Quy Nhon and Dieu Tri stations. Along the way, there will be slow-moving and stopping points for passengers to check-in.

Rail tourism needs to be more professional

Mr. Ha Van Sieu - Deputy Director of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism - Photo: MINH CHIEN

Mr. Ha Van Sieu - Deputy Director of Vietnam National Tourism Administration - commented that Binh Dinh has made efforts to diversify tourism products, especially focusing on railway tourism products.

Every day, the number of passengers traveling by train to Dieu Tri and Quy Nhon stations is nearly 600 people. In particular, Binh Dinh has put into operation 2 luxury tourist trains on the Da Nang - Quy Nhon and Nha Trang - Quy Nhon routes with international amenities such as 5-star hotels...

Despite the potential and initial results, according to Mr. Sieu's assessment, railway tourism in Vietnam in general and Binh Dinh in particular still has many limitations.

That is the railway infrastructure is not modern, the train speed is still slow, the train service is not attractive; the connection between the station and tourist attractions is not good, there needs to be an effective transit system...

"To develop railway tourism, Binh Dinh needs to implement solutions such as issuing policies to create conditions for railway tourism to break through and attract MICE tourism. Upgrading infrastructure and tourism products, improving Dieu Tri station, improving train quality, developing specialized tours such as "Train to discover the land of martial arts" and connecting with major tourist centers" - Mr. Sieu proposed.

He also suggested that Binh Dinh apply technology to promote tourism, provide digital information at train stations; organize tourism events, and programs to promote on trains and at destinations.

Along with that, the province needs to improve the quality of human resources in the tourism and railway industries, foster service skills, and adapt to digital transformation.
