“The whole school held a retirement ceremony, which surprised me. The moment all the teachers and students shouted my name, I was moved and tried to hold back my tears. When school was out, I stood at the gate to greet the students, and I cried,” said principal Hoang Minh Ngoc (Ea H’leo district, Dak Lak province).
After 38 years and 2 months of dedication to the career of educating people in the sunny and windy highland, Mr. Ngoc retired from the regime on November 1.
“On the first day of retirement, I felt relaxed and excited but a bit disappointed. I no longer heard the sound of students playing and the familiar sound of the school drum,” he said, adding that he would spend more time resting with his family, visiting old friends, and taking care of the garden.

Mr. Hoang Minh Ngoc was born and raised in Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh Province. In 1986, after graduating from the University of Education, he chose Dak Lak to devote himself to the education career.
“ The first days I came to Ea H'leo to start my career of teaching, this place was very difficult and wild. At that time, the district did not have a high school, so we had to borrow a classroom from a nearby elementary school to use as a place to teach, but there were no students yet, ” Mr. Ngoc recalled.

With determination and perseverance, the young teacher Minh Ngoc at that time went to each student's house to encourage, propagate, and explain to the parents to agree to let their children go to school, instead of going to the fields.
“ The Ea H'leo area is mainly inhabited by ethnic minorities, life is very difficult, living mainly by farming, so it is not easy to mobilize students to go to class. During the day, I teach, at night I have to go to each house to talk to parents. Some families take several months to convince,” Mr. Ngoc confided .
Thanks to the perseverance and unity of Mr. Ngoc and the teachers, after nearly 40 years, Phan Chu Trinh High School is increasingly spacious and the students' academic achievements are always maintained well.
Student Bui Duong Gia Han, member of the school's Executive Committee and also the MC at the ceremony, said that after learning that Principal Hoang Minh Ngoc would retire from November 1, the school's teachers and students proactively organized the retirement ceremony.
Han said that the banners, images, and scripts were all discussed and exchanged thoroughly by teachers and students from each class. They all wanted to give him a special, surprising gift on his last working day at school as principal.

“Every class took a small gift from their class fund to give the teacher a thank you for helping students in remote areas of Ea Hleo district study in a spacious, high-quality school for nearly 40 years, ” Han said.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Xuan Thu, Vice Principal of Phan Chu Trinh High School, said that the entire school wanted to give the teacher a surprise after nearly 40 years of dedication to the cause of educating people in the locality.
Over the years, no matter what position he holds, Mr. Ngoc has always upheld the example of a teacher's ethics, dedication, love for his profession and students, and excellently completed all assigned tasks.
On the afternoon of October 31, a video clip was posted on Facebook recording the emotional farewell ceremony of 1,400 students for their retired principal.
The opening scene shows some students escorting the principal from the gate to the middle of the school yard. Then, many students rushed from the buildings to the middle of the yard to give flowers to the teacher and hug him emotionally.
To the background music of the song “Chalk Dust”, the whole school continuously “reminds the teacher” to turn to the A1 and A2 blocks so that the students can shout “Teacher Ngoc is forever the best”, “We thank you, teacher”…
Along with that, from the 3rd floor of each building, students have printed banners with pictures of the principal and words of thanks, always remembering his contributions to this beloved school in a remote area.
The image of students and teachers holding a farewell ceremony for the principal was enjoyed and touched by many people.
