According to the poverty line for the 2021-2025 period, Lao Cai province still has 26,791 poor households, accounting for nearly 15%. Among them, there are many poor people, workers, and families in especially difficult circumstances who need attention and help, especially when the Lunar New Year 2024 is approaching.
Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee Trinh Xuan Truong emphasized that the program has profound humanitarian significance, aiming to spread the love of organizations, individuals, philanthropists, and people of all walks of life in Lao Cai province. Joining hands for the poor is not just a slogan but must be a specific and practical action.
Mr. Trinh Xuan Truong called on agencies, units, business community, enterprises, philanthropists and people to continue promoting the tradition of "the healthy leaves cover the torn leaves" and join hands to help the poor and the disadvantaged with the spirit of "No one is left behind". Organizations, units and individuals join hands with the Party Committee and the Lao Cai Provincial Government to support the poor to overcome difficulties, stabilize their lives and celebrate a happier, warmer and more complete Tet. Lao Cai Province commits to directing agencies, units and localities to allocate and hand out directly to poor households to ensure fairness, timeliness and the right beneficiaries.
The Chairman of the Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee suggested that poor people and poor households need to further promote their will to be self-reliant, self-reliant, take care of their labor and have the aspiration to escape poverty sustainably, without waiting or relying on the State's support.
At the program, the Mobilization Committee of the Fund "For the Poor" of Lao Cai province received registrations for support in cash and gifts with a total value of more than 16.7 billion VND from more than 200 agencies, units, businesses, and philanthropists inside and outside the province.
In recent years, despite many difficulties, Lao Cai province has always spent a large part of its resources to invest, support, ensure social security, improve the material and spiritual life of the people, especially the poor, workers in difficult circumstances in enterprises, industrial zones, patients with serious illnesses, and the disadvantaged.
In 2023, Lao Cai had nearly 1,000 poor households and families in especially difficult circumstances receiving support to build and upgrade their houses. Of these, nearly 213 "Great Solidarity" houses were completed thanks to the support from the "For the Poor" Fund mobilized at all levels; thousands of poor households were supported in their livelihoods and production development; over 80,000 people received free medical examination and treatment.
From the fund for the poor, the Fatherland Front at all levels has presented more than 117,540 gifts to support the poor and disadvantaged during the Lunar New Year, contributing to sustainable poverty reduction in the province.
On this occasion, Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee Trinh Xuan Truong awarded Certificates of Merit to 8 collectives and 4 outstanding individuals with many achievements in contributing and supporting the program "Tet for the poor - Spring of Giap Thin" in Lao Cai province in 2024.
