Spreading the art of Stage to children and teenagers in Hai Phong

On the morning of May 6, the Department of Culture and Sports of Hai Phong City informed the press about the first Performing Arts Festival for children and teenagers.

Ms. Tran Thi Hoang Mai, Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Hai Phong City spoke at the press conference.

Accordingly, from May 13-20, 2024, the 2024 Children's and Youth Stage Arts Festival will take place in Hai Phong City. The festival is organized by the Vietnam Stage Artists Association in coordination with the Hai Phong City People's Committee and the Department of Culture and Sports of Hai Phong City.

Ms. Tran Thi Hoang Mai, Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Hai Phong City, said that Hai Phong is a city with a long history and cultural depth. Hai Phong City always cares about the cultural and spiritual life of the people, especially teenagers and children, with many projects and plans that have been organized and implemented in recent years such as: School Stage, Storytelling Contests based on books, Summer Children's Painting Contests... Hai Phong is one of the few provinces and cities in the country that has a theater and a cinema dedicated to teenagers and children.

Artists expressed their opinions at the press conference.

According to Meritorious Artist Trinh Thuy Mui, President of the Vietnam Stage Artists Association, the 2024 Stage Arts Festival for Youth and Children aims to overcome the shortage of stage works serving youth and children in recent times. This is also one of the most important professional activities of the Vietnam Stage Artists Association in 2024.

“The works at the festival highlight the responsibility of the community, family, and society in caring for, educating, protecting, and loving the future owners of the country. Through that, we hope to spread the art of theater to children and teenagers,” Meritorious Artist Trinh Thuy Mui emphasized.

The festival will gather 14 participating art units with 17 outstanding works, which are art units: Hai Phong Puppetry Art Troupe, Vietnam Youth Theatre, Thanh Hoa Traditional Art Theatre, Vietnam Drama Theatre, Hanoi Drama Theatre, Hanoi Cheo Theatre, Sen Viet Art Troupe, Vietnam Circus Federation... The works participating in the festival have clear themes and ideas. The topics and genres are diverse such as: Drama, Tuong, Cheo, Cai Luong, Puppetry, Circus... The works will be performed at Hai Phong Opera House and August Theatre.

Meritorious Artist Cao Ngoc Anh, Deputy Director of the Youth Theater, said: “After 46 years of operation with the mission of serving the young generation, this is the first time we have participated in a national stage arts festival for teenagers and children. With the two works participating in this festival, we hope to orient towards good things, thoughts, actions of truth - kindness - beauty, condemn and stay away from bad and evil in the process of forming the personality of teenagers and children.”

The Organizing Committee will award Gold and Silver Medals along with cash prizes to works with high quality content and art, meeting the criteria in the judging and reward regulations.
