On September 27, Sinh Ton Dong Island Infirmary, Truong Sa District (Khanh Hoa) announced that it had just received and treated three fishermen suffering from decompression sickness due to deep diving.
On the same morning, while fishing near Sinh Ton Dong Island, Nguyen Duy Phong (21 years old), Do Thanh Duong (20 years old) and Tran Huu Nghia (21 years old, all residing in Phu Quy district, Binh Thuan province) dived 14 meters deep into the sea, about 5 nautical miles from Sinh Ton Dong Island.
When they surfaced, all three had symptoms of fatigue, dizziness, pain in their ears, chest, stomach, and legs. They were taken care of by crew members but did not improve.
The three patients were then taken by a fishing boat to the Sinh Ton Dong Island Infirmary for emergency treatment and were diagnosed by doctors with type 2 acute decompression sickness due to deep diving.
Doctors gave the patient oxygen, intravenous fluids, and medication according to the protocol. Currently, doctors continue to treat and closely monitor the patient's health.
Tuoi Tre Online reported that on September 25, while fishing for seafood in the sea about 100 nautical miles from Son Ca Island, Nguyen Huu Thanh (34 years old, a fisherman on a fishing boat in Binh Dinh province) had an accident after diving into the deep sea.
Mr. Thanh dived 20m deep to remove the net. When he came up to the surface, his whole body felt cold, he fainted for 15 minutes, had chest pain, and lost feeling in both legs.
Then, Mr. Thanh was taken by a fishing boat to Son Ca Island Infirmary for emergency treatment at 11:30 p.m. on September 26.
