With a passion for agriculture since childhood, while studying electronics and telecommunications at Hanoi University of Industry, Mr. Ngo Dinh Tuan traveled many times to the northern provinces to visit and learn about agriculture. Every time he had a break to visit home, he bought seedlings to plant in his family's sugarcane field.
In 2018, when he was about to graduate from university, he decided to drop out of school and return to his hometown to do farming, which surprised his parents and they tried their best to dissuade him. However, as a young man, he determined that he had to be a pioneer in transforming the structure of crops and livestock, bringing high economic value; thereby encouraging and motivating people to actively develop the economy.
“When my parents heard me talk about dropping out of school, returning to my hometown and not wanting to start a career in my field of study, they strongly objected. They didn’t want me to work hard in agriculture, especially when I was working at the Microsoft Bac Ninh factory specializing in phone hardware with a stable salary. It took me several months to convince my parents to support me,” Tuan shared.
After convincing his parents, together with his own capital, family capital and additional loans, Mr. Tuan took advantage of his family's sugarcane growing area and rented more land to grow jackfruit and Dien grapefruit. At the same time, he researched building barns to raise more high-value livestock.
When he first started implementing the model, he encountered many difficulties in planting techniques, taking care of crops and livestock, but the most difficult was the capital to invest in construction and buying plants, breeds, and finding outlets for the products. Meanwhile, the biggest capital he had at that time was the determination to get rich. Despite such difficulties, with the knowledge he learned and accumulated from visiting farm models along with the will to get rich of his youth, he was determined to build barns and improve the land to grow fruit trees.
Up to now, Mr. Ngo Dinh Tuan has successfully built a fruit tree growing model with an area of 3 hectares including 1,500 Taiwanese guava trees, 200 green-skinned grapefruit trees, 200 lemon trees, 450 Taiwanese custard apple trees, and 100 Taiwanese apple trees. Every year, he supplies the market with over 20 tons of fruit. Mr. Tuan also sets aside a part of the land area to build pens to raise wild pigs, porcupines, and geese. These are animals that he selected from high-quality breeds, suitable for the local soil and climate. In addition, the farm also raises 17 bee colonies for honey.
The farm scale was built by Mr. Tuan in the direction of synthesis, circulation, reuse of livestock by-products as fertilizer for crops, minimizing waste, and protecting the environment.
Currently, he sells about 500 pigs and 1,000 wild boars, 300 porcupines and nearly 700 geese to the market each year. Thanks to good care, the fruit garden has created high productivity. After deducting expenses, he earns from 500 to 600 million VND per year.
Mr. Tuan also cooperates and provides breeds for 4 satellite farms, and transfers breeding techniques to local people, contributing to increasing income for local people. His economic development model also contributes to solving seasonal jobs for 4-5 workers.
In addition to improving his knowledge, being diligent and hard-working, he regularly innovates his sales methods and searches for markets. During each working day in the garden, he often records instructional clips and then creates a YouTube channel to share his production experience with everyone to increase interaction. He also creates sales channels on social networking platforms, thanks to which he no longer has to worry about the output market. His products are distributed in the province and reach out to many other localities, and are highly appreciated by customers...
Secretary of the District Youth Union, President of the Tho Xuan District Youth Union Nguyen Thi Bich Phuong said: “The successful career of Mr. Ngo Dinh Tuan has encouraged and motivated young people, especially rural youth, to start their own businesses. In the coming time, we will continue to pay attention to models and advise young people to access low-interest loan support packages to start or expand their models.”
