The Ministry of Construction will preside over and coordinate with the provinces and cities of Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Khanh Hoa, and Tien Giang to organize the technical opening of 4 component projects of the North-South Expressway Construction Project in the Eastern Region, Phase 2021-2025, and the closing of Rach Mieu 2 Bridge in the form of online connection with the bridge points in the provinces and cities where the project passes through on April 19.
Four expressway projects are open to traffic
According to the report of the Ministry of Construction, the main bridge is organized at Passenger Terminal T3 - Tan Son Nhat International Airport (Ho Chi Minh City). The bridge points connecting to the main bridge point in Ho Chi Minh City include: the bridge point at the intersection of National Highway 8A (Km479+300) in Thanh Binh commune, Duc Tho district, Ha Tinh province; the bridge point at the Viet Trung intersection (Km643+400) in Nong Truong Viet Trung town, Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province; the bridge point at the intersection of National Highway 26 (Km332+100) in Ninh Xuan commune, Ninh Hoa town, Khanh Hoa province; the bridge point at Rach Mieu 2 bridge in Binh Duc commune, Chau Thanh district, Tien Giang province.
The North-South Expressway Construction Project in the Eastern Region, phase 2021 - 2025, has a total length of about 729km, divided into 12 component projects, including the Ha Tinh - Quang Tri (267km), Quang Ngai - Nha Trang (353km) and Can Tho - Ca Mau (109km) sections; the investment scale is divided into 4 lanes, with a preliminary total investment of VND 146,990 billion, passing through 12 provinces and cities with the project progress basically completed in 2025 and put into operation from 2026.
To date, the Ministry of Construction has basically completed 4/12 sections/component projects with a total length of about 208km, including: Bai Vot - Ham Nghi (length 35km); Ham Nghi - Vung Ang (length 54km); Bung - Van Ninh (length 49km) and Van Phong - Nha Trang (about 70/83km).
For the remaining 8/12 sections/component projects with a total length of about 521km, investors and contractors are speeding up construction progress, striving to complete the entire route in 2025.
Specifically, the Bai Vot - Ham Nghi component project has a total route length of about 35.28 km passing through Ha Tinh province, of which the road construction length is 33 km; the bridge construction length is 2.28 km. The route opened to traffic has a length of 35.28/35.28 km, including 3 intersections (intersection of National Highway 8A, Thanh Binh Thinh commune, Duc Tho district connecting Cau Treo border gate, Hong Linh town; intersection of Provincial Road 548, Trung Loc commune, Can Loc district connecting Nghen town, Dong Lo historical relic site, National Highway 1A and intersection with Provincial Road 550, Luu Vinh Son commune, Thach Ha district connecting with Ha Tinh city, National Highway 1A).
The Ham Nghi - Vung Ang component project has a total length of about 54.2km passing through Ha Tinh province. The open route has a length of 54.2/54.2km, including 03 intersections (Cam Quan intersection of National Highway 1, Cam Quan commune, Cam Xuyen district through the connecting route to National Highway 1A to Cam Xuyen district center, Thien Cam tourist area; Ky Trung intersection, Ky Trung commune, Ky Anh district to National Highway 1A connecting Ky Anh district center and National Highway 12C intersection, Ky Tan commune, Ky Anh district connecting Vung Ang Economic Zone and Ky Anh town).
The Bung - Van Ninh component project has a total length of 48.84km. The open route has a length of 48.84/48.84km, including 4 interconnecting intersections: Cu Nam intersection (distance approximately Km626+690.35), Viet Trung (distance approximately Km643+480), Nhat Le 2 (distance approximately Km653+850), National Highway 9B (distance approximately Km673+750).
These three expressway projects all started construction in January 2023, and have now been basically completed. The Ministry of Construction is planning to hold a technical opening ceremony on April 19, putting the main route into operation on April 28, and completing the project before June 30, 2025.

The Van Phong - Nha Trang component project has a total length of 83.35km. The completed section put into operation has a length of about 70.35/83.35km (from Km298+000 - Km368+350), including 3 interconnecting intersections: Van Gia intersection at Km299+812 (connecting with National Highway 1), National Highway 26 intersection at Km332+100 (connecting with National Highway 26) and National Highway 27C intersection at Km368+350 (connecting with National Highway 27C).
The project started in January 2022, and has completed 70.35/83.35 km. The State Inspection Council has approved the investor's acceptance results. The Ministry of Construction will hold an inauguration ceremony on April 19 and put it into operation at 6:00 a.m. on April 20, 2025.
The Rach Mieu 2 Bridge Project has a total length of 17.6km, starting at Dong Tam intersection (intersection between National Highway 1 and Provincial Road 870) in Chau Thanh district, Tien Giang province; ending at about Km16+660 National Highway 60, about 0.71km from the northern abutment of Ham Luong bridge in Ben Tre city, Ben Tre province.
The project started in March 2022 and has so far completed about 84% of the work, of which the Rach Mieu 2 main bridge package has been completed about 88%. The Ministry of Construction will organize the closing of the Rach Mieu main bridge at the location of the two towers P19 and P20 on April 19, 2025.
Shorten the journey and open up development space
The leaders of the Ministry of Construction said that the 4 component projects opened to traffic and put into operation on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025) will contribute to overcoming traffic congestion and minimizing traffic accidents, reducing traffic pressure on National Highway 1A, shortening travel time, improving operational safety, creating favorable conditions for traffic from the City to Phu Yen province; from the capital Hanoi to Ha Tinh and Quang Binh provinces; promoting investment efficiency, meeting the needs of travel, transportation, tourism, cultural and social exchange, in order to contribute to promoting economic development, stimulating tourism potential in the provinces of Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh and the provinces of the North Central and South Central regions.
On the other hand, the above 4 projects and 8 component projects of the North-South Expressway Construction Project in the East phase 2021 - 2025 are being accelerated, contributing directly to promoting the disbursement of public investment capital to achieve the planned growth target (growth in 2025 is over 8% and double-digit growth in the period 2026 - 2030).

When completed, the Project will open up new development spaces, urban areas, industrial parks, and service areas for localities, create jobs for people and businesses, increase land value, facilitate investment promotion, reduce logistics costs, and increase the competitiveness of goods and the economy.
For the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge Project, the event of the main Rach Mieu Bridge closing 4 months ahead of schedule is an important step, helping the investor and construction units strive to complete the project before October 30, 2025./.
