65 cases of child abuse since the beginning of the year
According to the report of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Ho Chi Minh City currently has more than 1.8 million children (accounting for more than 18.8% of the city's population). Of these, 10,196 children are in special circumstances, and 19,565 children are at risk of falling into special circumstances living in the community.
Statistics show that in 2021, Ho Chi Minh City had 114 children abused, in 2022, 147 children were abused. From the beginning of this year to April 30, 2023, 65 children were abused.

According to Ho Chi Minh City, the biggest challenge that the locality must focus on solving is the overload of schools and hospitals serving immigrants; and the prevention and fight against crime, especially crimes of violence and child abuse.
The perpetrators of violence and child abuse are increasingly expanding, not only from low-educated manual laborers but also from people with stable jobs, high education, and social status, mainly concentrated in the age group of 18 and above.
In addition, most child abusers are men and most children are abused by acquaintances such as relatives, neighbors, family friends, etc. Some cases of abuse take place over a long period of time, even for many years, but the victims remain silent.
The main methods of these subjects are to take advantage of their trust or influence or use "kindness" to entice and threaten children to commit acts of abuse. Common forms of child abuse are intentional injury, rape, sexual intercourse, indecent exposure, kidnapping, trafficking, etc.
The age of children who are subjected to violence and abuse tends to be getting younger.
In particular, while in the past, child abuse cases often occurred in deserted places, suburban areas, hotels, and workers' lodgings, recently, child abuse cases have occurred in public areas such as apartment buildings, schools, and parks.
Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee also assessed that in recent times, the number of child abuse crimes has decreased but the nature of the cases has become increasingly serious and complicated. The main forms of abuse are child sexual abuse (rape, sexual intercourse, indecent assault), followed by other forms such as physical abuse (torture, beating), and mental abuse (threats, scolding).
The age of children involved in violence and abuse cases tends to be younger and younger, concentrated in the age group from 10 to under 16, mostly girls.
