On the afternoon of March 18, answering VTC News reporter, Mr. Sung Lu Pao - Deputy Secretary of the District Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tam Duong district, Lai Chau province said that the district has requested the authorities to intervene and urgently verify the image of a group of young people setting off fireworks at a resting place in the forest (in Ho Thau commune) on the evening of March 17, 2024. This area is the resting place of the Pu Ta Leng and Ta Lien Son mountain climbing groups...

According to the Chairman of the People's Committee of Tam Duong district, after receiving the information, the district sent officials to the scene. According to initial assessments, this phenomenon of setting off fireworks in the forest has only recently appeared due to spontaneous mountain climbing organizations and groups in the area.

"The district has held a meeting with the People's Committees of the communes, thoroughly inspecting and strictly handling cases of illegal fireworks being set off at the resting area in the forest. In addition, we will also ask organizations and mountain climbing groups to return if they do not have a plan and do not report to the local authorities," said Mr. Pao.

According to the Chairman of the People's Committee of Tam Duong district, there is currently no result to verify the identities of the people in the mountain climbing group who set off fireworks at the hut in the forest in Ho Thau commune as recorded in the clip.

Earlier on the afternoon of March 18, a clip appeared on social media reflecting the image of a group of mountain climbers (about 20 people) setting off fireworks in a hut in the middle of the forest. The location of the incident is said to be at Pu Ta Leng peak (located on Hoang Lien Son range, in Ho Thau commune, Tam Duong district).

Notably, this area is surrounded by bamboo forests and old forests. Sparks from fireworks could very well catch on to surrounding trees, causing a major fire.

According to the person who shared the clip, when she saw people setting off fireworks, she warned them because this area was very prone to fire.

"I asked them what kind of fireworks they were burning and they said fireworks. After that, I warned them not to burn fireworks in this area because there was a high risk of forest fires. A moment later, someone in the group reported that the fireworks had failed and did not go straight up but instead shot sideways into the dishwashing area about 10 meters away.

At this point, I was in the kitchen nearby and it was quite intense and they stopped. However, a while later, they continued to light a whole set of fireworks," the person who shared the clip said.

On March 5, in Lai Chau, 5 forest fires broke out in Pac Ta commune, Tan Uyen district. Due to the complex terrain, dry weather, and strong hot and dry Foehn winds, fire fighting was difficult.
