Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Le Hai Long said that currently in Vietnam, drowning is the leading cause of death for children. Therefore, in recent times, the Central Youth Union Secretariat has implemented many propaganda activities, equipping children with skills to prevent drowning and injuries. Through the project of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union participating in preventing drowning and injuries for children in the period of 2018 - 2022, many free swimming classes have been organized. 2.4 million children have participated in the useful activities of this project.

Mr. Le Hai Long emphasized: "The free swimming class for children is even more meaningful when there is Nguyen Thi Anh Vien, a former swimmer of the Vietnamese swimming team. Anh Vien has had many outstanding achievements, bringing glory to the Fatherland, not only in the field of sports but also making Vietnamese youth famous in the international arena. Anh Vien is also one of the 10 typical young Vietnamese faces in 2013. Anh Vien is like a role model, not only a talented athlete but also very responsible to the community and especially to children through promoting her expertise, after having been trained, experienced, and dedicated throughout her career in high-level competition. I hope that the free swimming class organized by the Central Youth Union Council or other activities will not only stop at the swimming pool of Binh Chanh District but will spread to a large number of children, parents, the community, and society. From there, we will have a joint effort to reduce the situation drowning in the summer. And especially to reduce the number of children having accidents, injuries, and deaths due to drowning".

Closing the first meaningful day of swimming lessons, Anh Vien confided that her wish is that all children in Vietnam can learn to swim and be able to swim to minimize drowning. "When I was a child in the countryside, my family taught me to avoid drowning. I want to use my experience and knowledge to spread to everyone, especially children, the importance of learning to swim, it's like eating, drinking, running, jumping and learning to swim is very easy," Anh Vien shared.
