Overseas Vietnamese contribute to raising Vietnam's position

On the morning of August 31, the Ho Chi Minh City Committee for Overseas Vietnamese organized a meeting of overseas Vietnamese to celebrate the 79th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2024), the 15th anniversary of the Overseas Vietnamese with the Homeland Newsletter (2009 - 2024) and display press and propaganda publications related to the work of overseas Vietnamese.
The event was attended by more than 100 overseas Vietnamese from various countries and territories. Dr. Tran Van Binh (74 years old), an overseas Vietnamese from Germany, arrived early to the meeting. Mr. Binh is an expert in renewable energy and throughout his career has advised and advised many renewable energy projects in Vietnam. "In the last years of my life, I want to stay in my homeland and contribute knowledge to the sustainable development of the country. Currently, I support my wife in growing medicinal herbs such as ginseng, wild bitter melon... under the solar power plant. These activities also create jobs for people," he said.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Luan, an Australian expatriate and CEO of MeetMore Coffee - a fruit coffee brand of Global Trade Links Company Limited, said that in 2023, MeetMore Coffee's exports will reach over 1 million USD, of which the Australian market accounts for 40% of export revenue. He always keeps in mind the need to strive to build the image and brand of Vietnamese enterprises abroad, raising the country's position in the international arena.

Attending and speaking at the event, journalist Nguyen Ngoc Toan, Editor-in-Chief of Thanh Nien Newspaper, said that despite facing many difficulties, the community of 6 million overseas Vietnamese is still persevering, striving to stabilize their lives and continue to contribute to their homeland. This is clearly demonstrated by the figure of 16 billion USD in remittances to Vietnam in 2023, of which Ho Chi Minh City received 9.5 billion USD, an impressive growth of 43.3% compared to 2022 and the highest growth rate in the past 10 years. These figures demonstrate a deep love for the homeland and are an important resource to help build the country.

Journalist Nguyen Ngoc Toan said that the Party Committee and Editorial Board of Thanh Nien Newspaper have comprehensively led and directed the content work, especially important political and socio-economic events, in which the unit has been very active in providing information on foreign affairs. Thanh Nien Newspaper has won many awards and certificates of merit for foreign affairs information and expanding international cooperation, welcoming many press delegations and youth delegations from countries and diplomatic agencies to visit and exchange. Reviewing the development process of 15 years of developing the Overseas Vietnamese Newsletter with the homeland, Ms. Vu Thi Huynh Mai, Chairwoman of the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese in Ho Chi Minh City, also emphasized that each overseas Vietnamese is a people's diplomatic ambassador. Thereby, she called on overseas Vietnamese at home and abroad to join hands to contribute to the development of the city, promote the national cultural identity, and enhance the position and prestige of Vietnam.
