TPO – The Operation Management Board – Vietnam Expressway Corporation – is proposing to the Ministry of Transport to soon allow the addition of electric vehicle charging points on the expressways. Each rest stop will have at least 30 charging locations and 1 transformer station.
Speaking with Tien Phong reporter , the leader of the Exploitation Management Board - Expressway Development Investment Corporation (VEC) said that after the Ministry of Transport issued new standards on rest stops on the highway, the unit is urgently reviewing the infrastructure at the stations to add mandatory criteria according to schedule.
Accordingly, for the exploited stations, VEC currently manages 7 rest stops on 3 expressways: Cau Gie - Ninh Binh, Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay and Noi Bai - Lao Cai.
According to this person, the most urgent problem is that these rest stops do not have electric vehicle charging points. Assessments show that the number of electric vehicles traveling on the highway is becoming more and more popular. In cases where there are no charging stations on the highway, vehicles must go off-route to access charging stations in residential areas, which are very far away.
“The company is proposing that the Ministry of Transport allow additional electric vehicle charging points in the near future. The company plans to design additional electric charging stations and auxiliary facilities for the charging stations. Each rest stop will have at least 30 charging locations, 1 transformer station and infrastructure systems such as roads, parking lots, lighting, etc.”, he said.
For the rest stops that have not been deployed on the Da Nang - Quang Ngai and Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressways, the representative of the VEC Operation Management Board said that they will update the electric charging station design into the rest stop projects.
“Investors are working with local authorities and functional agencies on site clearance issues. VEC will ask the Ministry of Transport to approve the investment policy for additional electric vehicle charging stations, and at the same time develop a project to exploit road infrastructure assets according to the provisions of Decree 44/2024,” said a representative of the VEC Exploitation Management Board.
Recently, the investor at rest stop 117 on the Noi Bai – Lao Cai highway arbitrarily built an electric vehicle charging station. This charging station was built without a permit, violating construction order regulations and is being handled.
Regarding the selection of investors to build rest stops on 8 newly put into operation expressways, Mr. Nguyen Viet Huy - Deputy Director of the Vietnam Expressway Administration - said that up to now, the results of contractor selection have been available for 2 expressways Dau Giay - Phan Thiet, Mai Son - National Highway 45.
Accordingly, the Dau Giay – Phan Thiet expressway has a total investment of nearly 300 billion VND, implemented within 15 months. The project's operation period after completing the investment is 25 years. With the Mai Son – National Highway 45 expressway rest stop, the implementation cost is more than 200 billion VND, the implementation period is completed within 17 months.
“The project management boards are evaluating the results of contractor selection for the remaining routes. The results are expected to be available in June. If completed, the contractors will start construction this year,” said Mr. Huy.
