President proposes United Nations support for Vietnam in a number of priority areas

On the morning of April 17, at the Presidential Palace, President Luong Cuong received Ms. Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, on the occasion of her visit to Vietnam to attend the 4th Partnership for Green Growth and the Global Goals (P4G) Summit in Hanoi .

The President emphasized that this is the first multilateral summit in the field of green growth, green transformation and sustainable development that Vietnam has hosted and highly appreciated the participation of Ms. Amina Mohammed, thereby affirming the United Nations' commitment to promoting green growth, responding to global challenges as well as to the Vietnam-United Nations cooperation relationship.

The President stressed that 2025 is an important milestone for both Vietnam and the United Nations, marking the 80th anniversary of the formation and development of the United Nations, as well as the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's independence and the 50th anniversary of national reunification. Vietnam always appreciates the important contributions of the United Nations over the past eight decades to maintaining world peace and security and promoting international cooperation for sustainable development.

Delighted to share the country's great and historic development achievements since gaining peace and reunification, the President thanked the valuable support that the United Nations has always given to Vietnam from the post-war reconstruction period to the cause of renovation and international integration.

Affirming strong support for multilateralism with the United Nations playing a central role, the President stated that Vietnam consistently pursues a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, and diversification; and is an active and responsible member of the international community in resolving global issues.

Sharing the vision for national development in the new period, the President proposed that the United Nations continue to support Vietnam in a number of priority areas, including implementing sustainable development goals, building a rule-of-law state, digital transformation, green transformation, responding to climate change and global challenges, etc.

Ms. Amina Mohammed thanked the President for taking the time to meet her, expressed her impression of Vietnam's development achievements in recent times, and was pleased to affirm that the Vietnam-United Nations cooperation has developed well and extensively over the past five decades. The United Nations highly appreciates Vietnam's role and contributions to the United Nations' activities and wishes to share Vietnam's successful development experiences with the United Nations' partners.

The Deputy Secretary-General shared a number of activities that the United Nations is promoting with Vietnam, including implementing the results of the Future Summit (New York, September 2024), preparing for the 2nd World Summit on Social Development, the 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30), and the 4th International Conference on Finance for Development.

On this occasion, the two sides discussed the world and regional situation, challenges to multilateralism and agreed to strengthen cooperation, jointly promote multilateral cooperation and the role of the United Nations in global governance, preserve and promote the principles and fundamental values ​​of the United Nations when it was founded in 1945.

The two sides also discussed issues guiding the Vietnam-UN relationship in the coming time, including green growth, sustainable development, innovation, digital transformation as well as enhancing the participation of youth and women in these processes./.
