This afternoon, July 30, the Ministry of National Defense, the Border Guard Command (BĐBP) and the People's Committee of Quang Tri province jointly organized an award ceremony for achievements in the fight against Project QT524 on drug crimes of the Border Guard of Quang Tri province. Previously, at 22:50 on July 23, 2024, at Dung Tai motel yard, Tay Chin hamlet, Lao Bao town, Huong Hoa district, Quang Tri Border Guard force caught Nguyen Yen Nhi (born 2005), residing in Ngoc Chau ward, Hai Duong city, Hai Duong province, in the act of illegally storing and transporting drugs. Evidence seized at the scene included 15 kg of synthetic drug Ketamine and 2 kg of "happy water" powder.
Continuing the hot pursuit according to Nhi's testimony, the investigation force seized 40 more heroin cakes and 9 small packages of "happy water" powder that Nhi had previously kept in room 105, Dung Tai motel. Expanding the investigation, the provincial Border Guard exchanged and coordinated with the Lao police to arrest 2 more subjects related to this ring, including: Hoang Trung Hieu (born in 1992), residing in Tan Loc village, My Loc commune, Phu My district, Binh Dinh province; Tran Thi Thanh Dung (born in 1982), residing in Dien Phuoc commune, Dien Ban district, Quang Nam province, when these subjects were hiding in the Densavan village area, Se Pon district (Laos).

To encourage officers and soldiers of the Border Guard and forces participating in the fight against Project QT524, the Head of the Steering Committee 1389 of the Ministry of National Defense awarded certificates of merit and bonuses to the Drug and Crime Prevention Department, Lao Bao International Border Gate Border Guard Station and the Special Reconnaissance Team of the Border Guard of Quang Tri Province, each unit 20 million VND. The Border Guard Command awarded 50 million VND to the Project Team and forces participating in Project QT524 under the Border Guard Command of Quang Tri Province.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ha Sy Dong acknowledged and praised the achievements of the QT524 Project Team; highly appreciated the close coordination in implementing the project between the functional forces of Vietnam and Laos. At the same time, he hoped that the officers and soldiers of the Provincial Border Guard would continue to promote the tradition of solidarity, closely coordinate with functional units in performing well the task of drug prevention in particular and political and professional tasks in general. Do a good job of foreign affairs, grasp information to promptly prevent all types of crimes. The Border Guard Command continues to pay attention to and coordinate with the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee to better direct the fight against drugs, especially in border areas, contributing to protecting security and order in the locality.
