Survey of locations for Nha Trang night market implementation

On the afternoon of February 20, Vice Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee Le Huu Hoang led an interdisciplinary delegation to survey locations where night markets are expected to be held in Nha Trang City to promote the local night-time economy.

Accordingly, the delegation surveyed 4 locations to build a night market including the area on Nguyen Thi Ngoc Oanh Street (Hon Mot area), Vinh Hoa Ward; the area in front of Vinh Hai Market, Vinh Hai Ward; the embankment area along Xom Con Street, Xuong Huan Ward and the Thanh Nien football field area, Vinh Nguyen Ward.

According to the opinions of the members of the delegation, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Oanh Street has some advantages such as being close to the sea and having few vehicles. The route is about 260 m long, with a road width of 10 m, including a 7 m wide roadway and a 1.5 m wide sidewalk on each side, so it is quite convenient but quite far from the city center. This is also the area where a business has proposed to build a night market.

Meanwhile, the area in front of Vinh Hai market with 4 sides facing the street is expected to have 96 stalls for a night market. However, this area is located on 2/4 street with quite a lot of traffic and quite far from tourist accommodation areas.

Meanwhile, the embankment area along Xom Con Street is highly appreciated for the development of a night market. Specifically, this route is convenient when running along Cai River, Nha Trang City center, near projects and accommodation facilities such as Muong Thanh Khanh Hoa, Welltone Luxury Residence... and near destinations such as Thap Ba, Hon Chong, Dam Market...

This is also the area where a unit previously proposed to build a night market, but because Xom Bong bridge is under construction, the project has not been approved. The reason is that the Xom Con road section serves to reduce traffic congestion during the bridge construction.

Therefore, implementing a night market in this area at the present time is completely appropriate. However, the locality must have a suitable traffic diversion plan to avoid traffic congestion.

Nha Trang City currently has several night markets but they are small in scale. The largest and oldest is Yen Sao Night Market opposite April 2 Square. However, this is also an area that is being planned and converted into a walking street and book street.

According to Mr. Le Huu Hoang, each location can develop a night market, but each area has its own strengths and weaknesses. Accordingly, the Vice Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee requested Nha Trang City and relevant departments to receive comments and suggestions, clarify the orientation of space, arrange suitable traffic... to synthesize and advise the Provincial People's Committee to unify the location.

Regarding the night-time economy, in June 2023, the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province approved the Night-time Economy Development Project with the orientation of organizing annual events bearing the cultural identity of the locality.

The project focuses on building and developing the night-time economy in four areas: cultural and entertainment activities; food and beverage services; shopping; and night-time tourist attractions.

Specifically, Khanh Hoa plans to organize cultural and entertainment activities at night in Nha Trang beach area, Bai Dai area, Doc Let area (Ninh Hoa town); organize walking streets and night markets, entertainment areas, cuisine, shopping, street art in Nha Trang.

At the same time, there are artistic lighting solutions at Tran Phu Bridge, Xom Bong Bridge combined with Ponagar Tower, Cathedral, Nha Trang coastal park to attract tourists; organize night sea tours, Nha Trang night food tours, night cultural and historical tours...
