In recent times, agricultural production in the whole province has undergone a very positive shift. Contributing to this success are dynamic and creative farmers who have changed their thinking and actions, truly promoting their role as masters of a sustainable and high-value agricultural economy.
In Uong Bi City, farmers are increasingly catching up with the trend of urban agriculture and high-tech agriculture. Without the advantage of a large area for cultivation, Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Phuong, residing in Quang Trung Ward, chose to renovate the space in her house to make a place to cultivate and process cordyceps products.
To achieve this, Ms. Mai Phuong has invested heavily in modern refrigeration and sterilization equipment systems, and has received technology transfer and mushroom spawn from a ministry-level research unit for direct production. With her boldness and great efforts, Ms. Phuong has produced dozens of high-quality cordyceps products. Ms. Phuong's cordyceps mushroom products are certified as 3-4 star OCOP products, helping her become one of the typical farmers of Quang Ninh province.
Currently, Phuong's Cordyceps cultivation and processing facility has been expanded in Bac Son Ward, Uong Bi City, creating jobs and income for dozens of workers. The facility's products are produced in large quantities, accepted and trusted by the market.
In the context of increasing urbanization and industrialization, the area of agricultural land is increasingly narrowing, like Ms. Mai Phuong, many farmers in Quang Ninh have chosen new agricultural production models, requiring deep investment in technology, application of advanced production equipment, and modern production processes. They are a generation of dynamic, creative farmers who dare to think, dare to do, creating products and values for the province's agricultural sector.
Tan An Chicken Farm, Quang Yen Town has long specialized in Tan An chicken eggs. The owner of this facility is a typical farmer, Pham Thi Nguyet Dung. In early 2024, from the chickens raised on the farm, Ms. Dung boldly launched salt and pepper chicken to the market. The beauty of Ms. Dung's salt and pepper chicken product is its special flavor, due to the application of the processing recipe of a famous domestic chef. Along with that is a system of modern, clean, beautiful, and automatic chicken processing equipment at each stage. With this new product, Ms. Dung creates more jobs and income for many local people, contributing to increasing farmers' income.
Based on the development strategy of Quang Ninh province, since 2021, the Quang Ninh agricultural sector has successively issued programs and plans on sustainable forestry development. Following this orientation, Ba Che farmers have taken the lead in planting large timber forests, planting native trees, planting lim, giổi, and lat forests, and developing the economy under the forest canopy.
Mr. Ninh Van Nam is one of the pioneer farmers who intercropped lim trees in his family's production forest area. Currently, Mr. Nam's intercropped green lim forests have entered their third year, the trees are green, growing evenly, not infected with pests, and are considered a reserve, because the value of lim trees is very high. Along with lim trees, Mr. Nam continues to plant acacia forests in the direction of converting small wood forests to large wood forests. That is, instead of 5 years of exploitation as before, now his acacia forests are left to age over 10 years before being exploited. Thus, the output and value of acacia wood have increased significantly, more than 3 times higher than exploiting small wood forests.
In order to increase the value of the forest, Mr. Nam is currently intercropping medicinal plants under the forest canopy, creating short-term income, using this as a resource to invest in long-term goals. From the forest, Mr. Nam's family has a new house, a new car, accumulated capital, and a stable and prosperous family life.
Along with Mr. Nam, the lives of thousands of farmers in the highlands, mountainous areas, and border areas of Quang Ninh have improved thanks to the forest. It is the farmers who are attached to the forest that have gradually brought Quang Ninh's forestry economy to sustainable development, multi-value, linking forest development with environmental protection, not only promoting the overall development of the entire agricultural sector but also creating a foundation for the development of other economic sectors.
In fact, Quang Ninh farmers have been promoting their own abilities to master agricultural economic models. They are dynamic, creative, bold, dare to think, dare to do, know how to promote local advantages; know how to change production thinking, from focusing on output to quality; produce products that the market needs; produce in the direction of association, in groups, instead of individually.
Quang Ninh farmers today are confident in mastering modern agricultural models with high scientific and technological content, green and clean organic agricultural models, urban agricultural models, and agricultural models combined with tourism. Agricultural products made by farmers become commodity agricultural products, present in reputable distribution channels, e-commerce channels, and moving towards foreign export opportunities.
