Faced with the complicated developments of African swine fever in some localities, the Department of Animal Health, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has just sent a document to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Lang Son and Bac Kan provinces to strengthen the prevention and control of African swine fever.
To proactively and effectively control the African swine fever epidemic, prevent the disease from spreading widely, and minimize damage, the Department of Animal Health requests the Directors of the Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development of Lang Son and Bac Kan provinces to focus resources and urgently direct local veterinary management agencies and related units to rectify the work of preventing and controlling animal diseases in accordance with regulations.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development advises competent authorities to declare the epidemic and organize epidemic prevention and control in accordance with regulations; requests a review of the responsibilities of relevant collectives and individuals who fail to promptly advise, direct, and implement epidemic prevention and control in accordance with regulations.
Localities should focus resources to promptly support and allocate funds for commune-level authorities to thoroughly handle outbreaks and prevent new outbreaks from occurring. At the same time, organize the destruction of sick pigs, pigs suspected of being sick, pigs that have died of disease; conduct general cleaning, spray disinfectants, and disinfect (with lime powder, chemicals, etc.); promptly detect, prevent, and strictly handle cases of selling, trading, and transporting sick pigs, pigs suspected of being sick, and dumping dead pigs into the environment, causing disease spread and environmental pollution in accordance with regulations.
The Department guides livestock farmers, especially in localities with epidemics and high-risk localities, to strictly apply daily hygiene and disinfection measures using lime powder and chemicals in the barn area and surrounding areas. Livestock farmers must take measures to ensure that livestock owners and livestock facilities with pigs that must be destroyed due to epidemics fully carry out disinfection, sanitation, and detoxification to destroy pathogens and prevent the spread of disease.
The Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development review and require forces participating in the fight against the epidemic to strictly apply personal protection measures, hygiene, disinfection, and decontamination to prevent the spread of the disease during the process of handling, transporting, and destroying sick pigs; take measures to prevent burial pits of sick pigs from creating a risk of spreading the disease to the surrounding environment.
Localities have increased information and widely disseminated information in many forms about the dangerous nature of African swine fever, the risk of disease recurrence and spread, disease prevention measures and vaccine use.
