Opening of the 5th Nghe Tinh Vi and Giam Folk Song Festival

The 5th Nghe Tinh Vi and Giam Folk Song Festival has become a vibrant folk art festival, gathering 19 clubs with hundreds of artists and actors from the two provinces of Nghe An and Ha Tinh.

On the morning of August 3, in Vinh City (Nghe An), the People's Committee of Nghe An province and the People's Committee of Ha Tinh province jointly organized the 5th Nghe Tinh Vi and Giam Folk Song Festival - 2023.

Attending the program were Mr. Nguyen Quoc Huy - Deputy Director of the Department of Grassroots Culture (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), representatives of Nghe An province, Nghe An Department of Culture - Sports and Tourism and Ha Tinh Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Nghe Tinh is a land of outstanding people, rich in cultural and historical traditions. Thousands of years of development have created a rich and unique folk cultural treasure for this region. Among them, Vi and Giam folk songs are intangible cultural heritages that have been created, preserved and passed down through many generations by our ancestors, reflecting the spirit, character and temperament of the people of Nghe An.

With its own unique values, on November 27, 2014, UNESCO honored Nghe Tinh Vi and Giam folk songs as a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity. That is a milestone for the great pride of the people of Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces, joining hands and efforts to preserve and promote the heritage.

Vice Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee Bui Dinh Long - Head of the Organizing Committee delivered the opening speech of the festival.

To date, the two provinces have built over 250 Vi and Giam folk singing clubs with nearly 6,000 members of all professions and ages participating in activities and performances.

The 5th Nghe Tinh Vi and Giam Folk Song Festival - 2023 is a meaningful cultural activity to honor and affirm the eternal value of Vi and Giam in life. At the same time, it creates a large stage, a useful and healthy playground for mass art to shine and spread among all classes of people.

This is also an opportunity for artisans, actors of Vi and Giam folk singing clubs and people of the two provinces to exchange, learn and gain experience. Thereby promoting the Vi and Giam folk singing movement among all classes of people, further spreading the songs of our ancestors not only inside and outside the province but also to international friends; in order to continue to do better in preserving and promoting the value of intangible cultural heritage representing humanity.

The 5th Nghe Tinh Vi and Giam Folk Song Festival - 2023 has the participation of 19 clubs from 2 provinces (Nghe An 12 clubs, Ha Tinh 7 clubs). In 2 days (August 3-4), 19 clubs will perform nearly 60 acts, in many forms of performance, recreating the countryside, craft villages, and living customs of localities and regions... In which, focusing on the theme of praising the Party, Uncle Ho, the spirit of labor, love of life; praising the tradition of fighting to protect the country; propagating and encouraging the emulation movement to build the homeland, the country, and build new rural areas; reflecting the typical cultural characteristics of the homeland.

After the opening ceremony, the festival program began with performances from the Vi and Giam folk song clubs of the communes: Nghi Long (Nghi Loc), Tam Quan (Tuong Duong), Dai Dong (Thanh Chuong, Nghe An) and the Nguyen Cong Tru (Nghi Xuan) and Son Truong (Huong Son, Ha Tinh) clubs.

It is expected that on the evening of August 5, the festival organizing committee will summarize and award prizes at the closing ceremony.
