The festival not only contributes to promoting cultural exchange and people-to-people diplomacy between Vietnam and Korea, but also serves as a bridge to promote cooperation in the fields of education, fisheries, trade, import and export, etc. between the two countries.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice Chairwoman of the Da Nang People's Committee Nguyen Thi Anh Thi said that the diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Korea have achieved many important achievements in almost all fields. Currently, Korea is holding the number one position in foreign direct investment (FDI); second in development cooperation, tourism and labor; third in trade cooperation in Vietnam. The fields of culture and sports have truly become a bridge connecting the people of the two countries.

According to Ms. Thi, in that comprehensive strategic partnership, Da Nang City is an active locality in building friendly relations and cooperation with localities, organizations and enterprises of Korea in most fields from trade, investment, tourism, education to human resource exchange and cultural exchange.

With a dynamically developing economy based on modern digital technology, Korean partners have invested in many large projects in the fields of ICT, high technology, and automation in Da Nang, as well as actively supporting the city to develop the semiconductor, microchip, artificial intelligence, and high-quality service industries.

In particular, for many years, Korea has also been the leading international tourist market in Da Nang. In the first 6 months of 2024, the total number of Korean visitors staying in Da Nang reached 822,765, this number has reached the total number of Korean visitors to Da Nang, almost equal to the whole year of 2023 with 935,000 people.

"It can be said that the image of Korean tourists strolling on the streets, shopping at the Korean market, enjoying coffee, eating bread, and experiencing cyclo has become familiar in Da Nang city. On the contrary, Korea is increasingly loved by the city's residents, chosen as a tourist destination, to experience studying, working and working", Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi shared.

Mr. Kang Boo Sung, Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Da Nang City, said that in 2023, the bilateral trade turnover between the two countries exceeded 76.1 billion USD, making Vietnam the third largest trade partner of Korea and Korea is currently the largest investor in Vietnam with a total accumulated investment capital of 85.9 billion USD. In terms of people-to-people exchange, the number of Korean visitors to Vietnam last year reached approximately 3.6 million and the number of Vietnamese people visiting Korea is also steadily increasing. With this growth rate, the role of the Central region of Vietnam, with the center of Da Nang City, is also becoming more and more important.

Mr. Kang Boo Sung emphasized that the Korean Consulate General in Da Nang will always cooperate closely with Da Nang City and make every effort to expand the scope of cooperation to new areas such as high-tech industrial cooperation, business and university cooperation, and at the same time firmly consolidate the foundation for mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation in the future.

"I believe that the Vietnam - Korea Festival is a valuable opportunity for Korean and Vietnamese people to understand each other more deeply and increase their feelings for each other through active exchanges of people, culture and economy towards this goal. The Vietnam - Korea Festival in Da Nang City 2024 takes place from August 16-18 at Bien Dong Park with many attractive activities such as: Exhibition of cooperation achievements between Da Nang and Korean partners; Taekwondo performance and Taekwondo experience program; Experience wearing Hanbok, Ao Dai, Introducing traditional culture and folk games of Korea and Vietnam; Vietnam - Korea Food Contest...

In addition, the event has a variety of accompanying programs such as the Korea - Vietnam ICT Cooperation Prospects Conference; Vietnam - Korea Cultural and Folk Game Experience Space; Korean Baseball Experience; Vietnam - Korea Art Talent Competition and traditional and modern art performances of the two nations.

Special cultural exchange activities take place at the festival.

Dozens of booths introducing information, culture, cuisine, and traditional and modern art performances from art troupes from both countries promise to bring a wonderful experience to those who love Vietnamese and Korean culture.

The Vietnam - Korea Festival in Da Nang City was first held in 2015 and 2016, then postponed due to many reasons. 2022 marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Korea, the Vietnam - Korea Festival in Da Nang City was re-organized and became an annual foreign affairs event of the city. The festival has received the attention of many city residents and foreign tourists, especially Korean tourists with about 25,000 visitors participating in the 2023 festival season.
