Mark Sebowski (from the US) is enjoying a long trip in Vietnam. He visited many famous destinations such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Ninh Binh, Da Nang, Hoi An (Quang Nam), Ha Long (Quang Ninh)...
On his personal YouTube channel, the Western tourist posts videos about his real experiences in Vietnam and introduces to everyone how to travel at an affordable cost while still enjoying as much as possible.
“Everyone will have different expectations about traveling, but it's important to understand what you need and what makes you happy,” Mark wrote.
An American male tourist commented that Vietnam is a “culinary paradise”, suitable as a stopover for those who want to explore delicious food. The dishes here are not only diverse in flavor but also affordable.
According to Mark, to have an enjoyable culinary experience in Vietnam, visitors can note the following things. These are also the rules he often applies to find delicious and cheap places to eat in each locality.
First, Mark thinks that restaurants that are frequented by many Western tourists and have menus printed in English are often more expensive but "suit the general taste of international tourists".
In his personal opinion, restaurants frequented by many locals often bring interesting experiences to tourists such as the difference in taste of dishes as well as prices.
Second, according to Mark, arriving early or late to be served the freshest dishes is also a problem that foreign guests often encounter when experiencing cuisine in Vietnam.
The elderly customer suggested going to the restaurant during peak hours, although there might be a long wait because of the large number of customers. For example, lunch in Vietnam is usually served from 11am to 1pm, dinner from 6pm to 8pm.
“If you come too late, some restaurants may have sold out of their best dishes, and if you come too early, they may not be ready to open. So timing is also an important factor for you to have the best culinary experience here,” Mark said.
The third thing he learned from his own practical experience is to always be willing to try local dishes so as not to feel regretful. Each region in Vietnam has different specialties.
Mark suggests that tourists can enjoy bun cha in Hanoi, broken rice in Ho Chi Minh City, etc. and advises everyone to boldly season the spices and ingredients like the locals to best feel the wonderful flavor of each dish.
In addition to the above notes, the Western guest also advised his friends not to be afraid to go to restaurants that only have Vietnamese menus.
