Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism said that during the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday, there will be about 87,358 international visitors to Ho Chi Minh City, an increase of 16.5% compared to the figure of 75,000 in the same period in 2024.
The increase in the number of international visitors also helped the room occupancy rate of accommodation establishments in Ho Chi Minh City increase by 44.4% over the same period last year, reaching about 65%. Revenue is estimated at about VND 7,690 billion, up 17.4% compared to the figure of VND 6,550 billion in the same period in 2024.
On January 31, speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , a travel agency in Ho Chi Minh City admitted that in 2025, the Lunar New Year will last 9 days, making it very convenient for tourists to take short to long-term trips.
This year, the new travel trend is to travel by car to neighboring localities connected to Ho Chi Minh City by highway or by train or plane to the northern provinces and cities, the Central Highlands, Con Dao, Da Nang, Hoi An, Phu Quoc, Quy Nhon, Phu Yen...
And customers tend to travel in small groups, families, or acquaintances; choose many high-end resort tours, "free and easy" tours (including airfare and high-end hotels).
"High-end resort tourism products, resort tourism combined with health training programs, sports, meditation, etc., along with traditional Tet tour products will also be chosen by tourists in 2025," a travel agency in Ho Chi Minh City emphasized.
From the end of 2024, in addition to travel businesses launching many new tourism products with competitive prices and preferential discount policies for customers; Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism also explained the large number of visitors to the city in recent days because this is the peak season for foreign tourism to Vietnam, especially focusing on entertainment areas, combined with shopping services...
Therefore, compared to the same period in 2024, the number of visitors to tourist areas, entertainment and service venues during this time reached about 2,100,000 (an increase of 16.7%).
In addition, during the Lunar New Year 2025, 3-5 star hotels will organize a variety of traditional New Year activities for guests to experience; or implement incentive programs such as 20-30% discounts on some services such as bars, spas; discounts on airport shuttle fees, etc.
Standard shopping establishments and restaurants also organize many traditional Tet festival activities with discounts, not only for tourists coming to the city to celebrate Tet but also for Ho Chi Minh City residents.
Domestic airfares are high, so choose to travel… abroad
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, domestic airfares will increase during the Lunar New Year 2025, so tourists are excited about plans to travel abroad to countries with competitive tour prices, such as Thailand and China.
In addition, traditional destinations such as Singapore, Japan, Korea, Europe and the US continue to be chosen by customers.
