Originally developed for use in meteorology and topography, lidar technology is now used for automotive sensors, allowing self-driving AVs to “see” and safely navigate complex driving situations.
Keysight LTS Solution Suite
Similar to radar-based systems, lidar sensor manufacturers must ensure that lidar systems detect objects quickly and reliably, enabling advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) to function properly before they can be brought to market.
To accurately measure sensors today, designers need large spaces and traditional target boards. In addition, the industry faces the need to reduce sensor costs and mass produce them on a large scale.
The Keysight LTS solution addresses these challenges by simulating test targets at known distances and reflectivities in a compact, standardized test bench setup. The solution is designed to simplify and reduce the time to test, validate, and manufacture lidar sensors through standardization and automation.
Keysight's solution also has the advantage of being small in size, supporting large measurement distances - the compact measuring table layout saves measurement space by simulating targets at distances from 3 meters to 300 meters and simulating surface reflectance from 10% to 94%.
“Keysight sees the important role that lidar can play in enabling more precise autonomous vehicle control by adding a complementary sensor to cameras and radar,” said Thomas Goetzl, vice president and general manager of Keysight’s Automotive and Energy Solutions group. “With a lidar target simulator that can simulate the change in reflectivity and distance to a target, we are ready to support the widespread deployment of lidar technology with a scalable production test solution.”
