The 30-year-old striker arrived in Munich yesterday, August 11, and passed his medical with ease. Today, Kane signed for Bayern and posed for pictures in his new shirt, wearing the number 9 shirt - the number that was left vacant after Polish striker Robert Lewandowski left the club last summer.
"I am very happy to be a member of Bayern from today. This is one of the biggest clubs in the world and I have always said that I want to compete and prove myself at the highest level. Bayern is shaped by the team's desire to win. I am very honored to be here," Kane said on the club's homepage.
Immediately after that, the new player went to the training ground with his new teammates. According to Sky Sports Germany, due to the quick completion of paperwork and Kane himself being physically ready and having a good feel for the ball since the pre-season training with Tottenham, Bayern will include this striker in the list for the German Super Cup match at 1:45 a.m. on Sunday, August 13, Hanoi time. Thanks to that, Kane has the opportunity to win the first collective title of his career, just less than 24 hours after signing a contract with the new team.
Bayern had previously negotiated three times with three new offers, convincing Tottenham to agree to sell Kane for a fixed price of $110 million plus $22 million in add-ons. The Bundesliga champions and the English striker quickly agreed on personal terms with a four-year contract and a weekly salary of $525,000, more than double what Kane earned in his final year at Tottenham.
After his debut with Bayern, Kane posted a message of gratitude and farewell to Tottenham on Instagram . "It's difficult to write a farewell to the club and the fans who have supported me throughout my career. You will always be in my heart. Thank you Tottenham, thank you Tottenham fans." In the video posted with this message, Kane said he was sad to leave the place he had been attached to for nearly 20 years, from when he was an 11-year-old boy to becoming a 30-year-old man. The striker also sent his thanks to his teammates, coaches and club members with whom he has worked during this time.
Kane holds the record for scoring 280 goals for Tottenham and 58 for England. He is currently second in the Premier League's all-time scoring list with 213 goals, just behind the legendary Alan Shearer's record of 260. However, the 30-year-old striker has yet to win a team title. Kane lost the 2015 and 2021 League Cup finals, the 2019 Champions League final with Tottenham and the Euro 2021 final with England.
Last season, despite scoring 30 goals, Tottenham only finished 8th in the Premier League, and did not qualify for the European Cup this season. This is the reason why Kane refused to sign a contract with only one year left and wanted to leave this summer. Tottenham reluctantly had to sell him, to avoid losing him for free in the summer of 2024.
