On May 30, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched a large-scale, two-week exercise called Firm Hand, simulating a total war.
According to the Times of Israel, the IDF said that soldiers from the active and reserve armies, from nearly all units, will participate in the exercise, handling challenges and unexpected events on multiple fronts at once. The Israeli air force will conduct scenarios of “strategic” strikes deep into enemy territory, while the navy will conduct offensive and defensive operations.
The exercise comes after Israel’s army chief, General Herzi Halevi, warned last week that “negative developments” regarding Iran’s nuclear program could prompt an Israeli response. However, the IDF said the exercise was planned in advance and was not prompted by any recent security assessments.
