From the benefits of building model gardens, especially contributing to beautifying the rural landscape and taking advantage of land funds, improving the economic efficiency of gardens in each family, in recent times, the movement to build new rural model gardens has been actively implemented by localities in Vinh Linh district, from which there are more and more standard model gardens.

Ms. Hoang Thi Phuong Hoa's family in Quang Xa village, Vinh Lam commune started building a model garden nearly 5 years ago. Previously, on the same garden area of over 700 m2, Ms. Hoa's family still grew crops and raised livestock but did not invest systematically and focus on any main crops or livestock. Agricultural products were mainly used to meet the daily needs of the family.
Later, responding to the movement to build new rural model gardens, Ms. Hoa's family began to renovate and rearrange the garden, then gradually learned and specialized in growing fruit trees and raising livestock in an organic direction.
Ms. Hoa's garden currently has a reasonable and beautiful space, divided into 3 sub-areas including: the road leading to the house and in front of the house, many types of ornamental plants and shade trees are planted and displayed; on both sides of the house are fruit trees; behind the house is a hygienic livestock barn area.
Ms. Hoa shared: “Since building the model garden, my family has re-planned the garden to be neat and clean, and installed an electricity and irrigation system. Thanks to that, production in the garden has also been more effective. In the past few years, the garden has had seasonal products for sale, such as: green-skinned grapefruit, longan, guava, chicken eggs, chicken meat... Taking advantage of the home garden, the family has an additional income of 50 million VND per year, and more importantly, the living space is more airy and clean.”
To develop new rural model gardens, each locality in Vinh Linh district launched a widespread emulation movement, strengthened propaganda work, and mobilized cadres and people to voluntarily participate in renovating and improving the economic efficiency of gardens.
Along with that, direct each association to survey and select at least 1 farmer household with high determination in building a new rural standard garden to make a list to propose to the District People's Committee to train and guide the implementation process. Households base on the actual conditions of the garden and the construction orientation and then gradually complete the planning items.
Accordingly, the new rural model garden will be evaluated based on 5 criteria with 9 indicators, including: planning and implementation of planning; application of scientific and technological advances; garden products; landscape environment; income. During the process of people responding and implementing the construction of model gardens, Vinh Linh district directed all levels, sectors and localities to regularly check and promptly support part of the seed source and funding for each household to invest in large-scale gardens.
Based on the documents submitted by the People's Committees of the communes, the Vinh Linh District Model Garden Appraisal Council organized the actual appraisal of the level of meeting the standards of each model garden according to Decision No. 2054/QD - UBND dated August 8, 2022 of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province on promulgating the set of criteria for building new rural model gardens in the province for the period 2022 - 2025. For model gardens that meet the standards, there will be rewards from the district to the village. Thereby creating more motivation, continuing to encourage people to develop model gardens.
Thanks to that, in Vinh Linh district, many households have formed gardens with an area of 1,000m2 or more, ensuring harmony between landscape and environment and initially bringing economic efficiency. Up to now, Vinh Linh district has 59 villages meeting the model new rural standards; 70 household gardens have been recognized as meeting the model garden standards according to the set of criteria for building model new rural gardens in the period of 2022 - 2025, in the communes: Kim Thach, Hien Thanh, Trung Nam, Vinh Hoa, Vinh Giang, Vinh Chap, Vinh Long, Vinh Tu, Vinh Thai, Vinh Lam, Vinh Thuy, Vinh Son.
Talking about the orientation of developing model gardens in Vinh Linh district in the coming time, Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vinh Linh district, Diep Hong Cuong, added: “Continuing to implement the contents of the new rural construction program, all levels, sectors and localities of Vinh Linh district will actively encourage households with standard gardens to maintain and develop their gardens further. From there, it will be a standard for surrounding households to learn and replicate. Strive for 1 village to have not only 1 model garden but 2-3 and more than the number of model gardens according to general regulations”.
Building, maintaining and replicating model gardens that are showing positive results in rural areas in Vinh Linh district. Especially the development of garden economy associated with environmental protection in each household. Thereby contributing to preserving the landscape and living space of new rural villages.
