The international scientific conference "Le Quy Don: Life and Career" is a meaningful activity towards the 300th anniversary of the birth of cultural celebrity Le Quy Don (1726 - 2026), contributing to completing the dossier submitted to UNESCO to recognize him as a World Cultural Celebrity.
Nearly 90 presentations by domestic and international scientists from many perspectives have further clarified the role of cultural celebrity Le Quy Don in the cause of enlightenment.

Attending the workshop were Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim, Vice Chairman of the National Cultural Heritage Council, member of the World UNESCO Committee; Mr. Dao Quyen Truong, Deputy Director of the Department of Cultural Diplomacy and UNESCO, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Phuong, Director of the Vietnam National Institute of Culture and Arts, representatives of central and local departments and branches, scientists, representatives of the Le family nationwide, the Le family of Thai Binh province, the Le family of Hung Ha district and the Le family, Phu Hieu village, Doc Lap commune, Hung Ha district, representatives of the paternal and maternal families of the famous Le Quy Don in Ha Nam province, Hung Yen province.
The conference also attracted the attention of many international scientists from China, Japan, Russia, Austria, France, etc.
In his welcoming speech at the conference, Mr. Pham Van Nghiem (Vice Chairman of Thai Binh Provincial People's Committee) emphasized that Thai Binh is a land of "spiritual people", famous for its tradition of learning. After nearly a thousand years of imperial examinations under the feudal period, the villages and communes now in Thai Binh province have had more than 120 Confucian scholars who passed the imperial examinations, with degrees ranging from Phó bảng to Trạng nguyên, including Tam Nguyên Bằng nhân Lê Quý Đôn, who is considered a shining symbol of Vietnamese spirit and intelligence.
"The completion of the dossier to register Le Quy Don as a World Cultural Celebrity is not only to honor his personal contributions but also to affirm the position of Vietnamese culture and Vietnamese intelligence in the international arena. This is a great pride of the Vietnamese people," Mr. Pham Van Nghiem affirmed.
Nearly 90 presentations from many perspectives showed the interest of domestic and international scientists, sharing enthusiastic, objective opinions and many rich documents about the life and career of the cultural celebrity Le Quy Don. The presentations and opinions once again affirmed the merits, talents and honored the outstanding contributions of the scholar Le Quy Don to Vietnamese culture, contributing to enriching regional and international culture.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Phuong, Director of the Vietnam National Institute of Culture and Arts, over the past 300 years, the talent and stature of cultural celebrity Le Quy Don have been affirmed and received the attention of many domestic and foreign scientists and researchers, at the same time showing the need to more widely introduce Le Quy Don's heritage to the world.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Phuong, Director of the Vietnam National Institute of Culture and Arts, spoke at the Workshop.
Born in Dien Ha village, Dien Ha district, Son Nam town (now Doc Lap commune, Hung Ha district, Thai Binh province), Le Quy Don was famous as a child prodigy from a young age, ranking first in all three exams: Huong, Hoi and Dinh and becoming a talented intellectual, not only good at the fields of philosophy, history, geography and astronomy but also an excellent writer and diplomat. He was the embodiment of the spirit of continuous learning, creativity and intelligence.
Le Quy Don left behind a huge body of work with valuable works that are highly appreciated by domestic and international scholars.
The workshop was divided into 4 sub-committees, affirming the great contributions of the cultural celebrity Le Quy Don in many aspects: ideology, culture, education and science. At the same time, it continued to affirm the necessity of protecting and promoting the cultural heritage values associated with the life and career of the celebrity Le Quy Don in the current context.
Mr. Dinh Ba Khai, Vice Chairman of Hung Ha District People's Committee, Thai Binh Province, with his speech on "The homeland and family of the famous person Le Quy Don", emphasized the role of Hung Ha hometown in nurturing and developing the talent of the famous person Le Quy Don. Hung Ha land has a rich culture and history, and is the birthplace of many outstanding celebrities throughout history. The Le Quy Don family, with many people passing exams and holding high positions, has greatly contributed to the cultural and educational heritage of the region.
Mr. Khai also emphasized Le Quy Don's outstanding achievements in his academic and political career, affirming that he was an outstanding scholar with monumental works of historical and contemporary value. The Le Quy Don Memorial Site was also mentioned as a symbol of gratitude and traditional education for future generations.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nina V. Grigoreva, HSE University, St. Petersburg, Russian Federation, commented that the contributions and works of scholar Le Quy Don show that he is the leading enlightener of Vietnam.
"Le Quy Don was a mandarin, intellectual and great scientist during the Le Trung Hung period. He lived, worked and wrote in the middle decades of the 18th century, which in world history is called the Enlightenment century. He was a contemporary of great cultural and scientific figures such as Montesquieu (France), Voltaire (France), Hume (England), Lomonosov (Russia), Rousseau (Switzerland-France), Diderot (France)...". Ms. Nina V. Grigoreva analyzed.
Professor Shimizu Masaaki, Osaka University, Japan, made a very interesting comparison between the scholar Le Quy Don and the famous 18th century Japanese linguist, the National Scholar named Motoori Norinaga (1730-1801).
"Comparing with the research method of a Japanese nationalist, Motoori Norinaga, to determine the similarities and differences between two contemporary scholars in Vietnam and Japan, Le Quy Don was the first Vietnamese person to consider language and writing as objects for thinking and perception. He was the one who proposed the first method of researching Vietnamese in the history of Vietnamese science," according to Professor, Dr. Shimizu Masaaki.
The workshop is also an opportunity to further strengthen the work of preserving and promoting the heritage values left by the cultural celebrity Le Quy Don, in order to contribute to the socio-economic development of the country in general and Thai Binh province in particular. Through the example of the cultural celebrity Le Quy Don, we can inspire the spirit of studiousness and creativity to educate future generations.
Professor Tu Thi Loan (Vietnam National Institute of Culture and Arts) from the perspective of "The legacy of scholar Le Quy Don and its protection and promotion in contemporary life" evaluated the great contributions of Le Quy Don, a great scholar of Vietnam, in many fields such as philosophy, history, literature, and education.
Professor Tu Thi Loan especially emphasized the importance of protecting and promoting the monumental legacy that the famous Le Quy Don left behind in order to convey cultural and intellectual values to future generations. In addition to recognizing the efforts in preserving and promoting Le Quy Don's legacy, Ms. Loan also pointed out the remaining limitations and difficulties, and at the same time proposed the basis for proposing necessary measures to continue exploiting and effectively promoting his legacy in the modern context.
Previously, on the afternoon of September 29, at the Le Quy Don Cultural Celebrity Memorial Site and the Le family temple in Dong Phu village, Doc Lap commune, Hung Ha district, Thai Binh province, delegates attending the conference held an incense offering ceremony and visited the tomb of Ha Quan Cong - Dr. Le Trong Thu, father of scholar Le Quy Don and visited the Thai Binh Provincial Library./.
