Vietnam - Poland defense cooperation achieves many positive results

On the morning of March 24, at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Deputy Minister of National Defense, had a meeting with Polish Deputy Minister of National Defense Pawel Bejda, who is visiting and working in Vietnam.

At the talks, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien affirmed that Vietnam consistently pursues a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, multilateralization and diversification of foreign relations; persists in the "four no's" defense policy; and persistently struggles to resolve all disputes and disagreements by peaceful means on the basis of international law.

Vietnam's consistent stance on resolving the East Sea issue is that relevant parties need to comply with international law and customs, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS); comply with the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), and promote early conclusion of negotiations and signing of the Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC) in a substantive and effective manner.

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien expressed his delight at the positive results of Vietnam-Poland defense cooperation based on the effective implementation of the bilateral defense cooperation agreement (signed in 2010), especially in areas such as: Exchange of delegations, especially high-level delegations; training; United Nations peacekeeping; defense industry, etc.

At the same time, he emphasized that the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense is ready to receive Polish soldiers to study Vietnamese at the Academy of Military Science and attend international training courses at the National Defense Academy.

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien suggested that in the coming time, the two sides should focus on consolidating and perfecting the frameworks and mechanisms of bilateral defense cooperation; continue to promote delegation exchanges at all levels to enhance understanding, trust and promote defense cooperation in line with the overall Vietnam-Poland relationship; strengthen cooperation in training; United Nations peacekeeping; defense industry; military medicine; exchanges of young officers, etc.

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien expressed his gratitude to Poland for providing Vietnam with scholarships in Poland; asked Poland to continue supporting cooperation activities between Vietnam and the European Union (EU) in the defense sector, in line with the framework of the agreement signed between Vietnam and the EU; and asked Poland to speak out in support of the EU's early removal of the yellow card on Vietnamese seafood.

At the talks, Polish Deputy Minister of Defense Pawel Bejda expressed his pleasure to visit Vietnam in his capacity as Deputy Minister of Defense and member of the Polish Parliament.

Deputy Minister Pawel Bejda affirmed that Vietnam is an important partner of Poland in the Southeast Asian region. Poland wishes to promote cooperation with Vietnam not only in the economic field but also in the defense field, especially the defense industry, training, and United Nations peacekeeping.

Deputy Minister Pawel Bejda hopes that through this meeting, bilateral defense cooperation will continue to be further promoted, bringing practical results to all parties.
