Participating in the 2023 World Invention Creativity Olympic (WICO), a group of 5 students representing Vietnam has just won a Gold Medal.

The group of students includes: Nguyen Minh Hai (class 10A3 IT, High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences, University of Science, Vietnam National University, Hanoi); Phuong Gia Phong (class 10A1 Physics, High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences, University of Science, Vietnam National University, Hanoi); Le Trong Hung (class 12N1, Nguyen Tat Thanh High School, Hanoi); Bui Le Minh (class 11 IT, Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted, Hanoi) and Vu Do Minh Tri (class 9 Cushing Academy, USA).
2023 is the 12th year of the International Olympiad on Inventions and Science. The competition takes place from July 27 to 29 in Seoul, South Korea.
Under the scientific guidance of Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Cao Khang (Hanoi National University of Education), the group of students represented Vietnam in the competition with the topic "Making a sample vaccine cold storage and logistics management for northwest provinces in Vietnam" (Using thermoelectric materials to make a storage/heat retention container for transporting vaccines to mountainous areas of Vietnam).
The contest topic was built and developed by a group of students during the COVID-19 pandemic. At that time, thanks to timely assistance and vaccines, the world was able to regain a peaceful life. However, in reality, there are many other diseases that need the support of vaccines. Therefore, with the desire to solve the difficulties in preserving and transporting vaccines, the group of students created a vaccine preservation and transport container.
Currently, most vaccines must be stored in professional refrigerators and at temperatures ranging from 2-8 degrees Celsius, some vaccines need to be stored at lower temperatures. In Vietnam, the storage and transportation of vaccines to remote rural and mountainous areas is still challenging due to complex terrain and the inability to maintain temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius with ice. Therefore, the creation of a vaccine storage and transportation cabinet by a group of students using a thermoelectric cooling system (TEC) has helped preserve different types of vaccines at -30 degrees Celsius and maintain the desired temperature for a long time...
At the WICO 2023 playground, participating student groups must present their research topics, ensuring the criteria of being new, creative and highly applicable; and must also answer questions raised by the members of the International Jury.
With their ideas and creativity, the research topic "Making a sample vaccine cold storage and logistics management for northwest provinces in Vietnam" by a group of Vietnamese students was awarded a Gold Medal by the Organizing Committee of the 2023 International Science and Innovation Olympiad and highly appreciated for its practical value to society.
