This is the school year set by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for primary, secondary, high school and vocational education students of public schools for the 2024-2025 school year in Ho Chi Minh City.

First graders in Ho Chi Minh City returned to school on August 19. Preschoolers did not return to school before the opening ceremony.

Recorded at schools on the morning of August 26, the atmosphere was joyful, most students were excited to return to school to meet friends and start a new learning journey.

At Bui Thi Xuan High School (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City), many students arrived at school at 6:30 a.m. and settled down in the schoolyard before 7 a.m. to begin the first flag-raising ceremony of the new school year. This year, the school welcomed 779 new students to grade 10 out of a total of 2,285 students.

At the first flag-raising ceremony, Mr. Huynh Thanh Phu - the school principal - advised students to prepare mentally and prepare their learning roadmap early in the first school year to fully implement the 2018 high school program at all levels.

Especially for 12th grade students, they need to be very serious about their studies because the 2024-2025 school year is also the first year that the high school graduation exam will take place according to the new program.

"Today is the first day I get to enter my favorite school, I'm very happy. The school is much larger and wider than my elementary school, and there's even a large soccer field, I'm very happy," said student Vu Khoi - grade 6, Nguyen Van To Secondary School, District 10.

Mr. Nguyen Vi Tuong Thuy, principal of Nguyen Van To Secondary School, said that after participating in activities in the schoolyard to hear introductions about teachers and the school, the 6th graders will go to class to get to know their homeroom teachers and new friends.

At recess, the children will dance a folk dance together to get used to the school activities. This folk dance is also a mid-break exercise for all students in the school.

"For students just entering middle school, they need to be mentally prepared. The school wants to create a comfortable environment for them to integrate naturally," said Mr. Thuy.

At Nguyen Du Secondary School, District 1, 6th grade students were also welcomed separately in a solemn and warm ceremony. They were led by teachers to tour the school, get acquainted with the functional rooms, and get to know the teachers.

In particular, the students had the opportunity to interact with some 9th grade students who had outstanding achievements in the school's 10th grade exam to hear their inspiration for studying.

At Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, District 5, hundreds of 10th grade students were also welcomed at the school yard, then went to class to get acquainted with their friends as well as grasp the new rules and learning methods at school.

"Today is a special day, we get to go to class and meet our friends. My classmates come from many different middle schools, some of them are from the province so I'm very excited to get to know them," Ngoc Diep - a 10th grade student at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted - happily said.

At many other schools in District 1, District 3, Binh Thanh… the first day of welcoming students took place quite quickly. The school board met with students and sent greetings and encouragement to them as they entered the new school year.

During the first week after school, most schools will organize activities for students to get acquainted with new rules and regulations, and also have programs to share learning experiences and introduce school clubs to students...

After the opening ceremony on September 5, students will officially begin the program in the 2024-2025 school year.

Ho Chi Minh City increases more than 24,000 students in the new school year

According to the report of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, in the 2024-2025 school year, the whole city will have 1,707,220 students, an increase of 24,097 students compared to the 2023-2024 school year.

Of which, primary school recorded the largest number of students with about 626,513 students. However, compared to the 2023-2024 school year, the number of primary school students decreased by 6,185 students.

The Ho Chi Minh City education sector has identified the theme for the 2024-2025 school year as "Discipline, responsibility, innovation, digital transformation to improve the quality of education and training in Ho Chi Minh City".
