More than 2 million preschool and primary school students in Hanoi returned to school on August 28, with first graders returning on August 21.
According to the 2023-2024 school year plan announced by the Hanoi People's Committee on August 11, students in the capital will return to school on August 28 and start the new school year on September 5. Grade 1 students will return to school a week earlier, from August 21, to stabilize the order and get used to the learning environment.
Schools will finish semester I before January 15 and semester II before May 25. Students in grades 5 and 9 will be considered for completion of primary and secondary school before June 30, 2024. Admissions to the first level (grades 1, 6, 10) will be completed before July 31.
This school year's calendar in Hanoi is similar to many localities in the country such as Ho Chi Minh City, Hoa Binh, Ninh Thuan.

In the 2023-2024 school year, Hanoi will have about 2.3 million preschool and primary school students. The number of students entering grade 1 and grade 6 increased by nearly 12,000 and 39,000, respectively, compared to the previous year. According to the Department of Education and Training, nearly 500 preschools, primary schools, and secondary schools have been renovated and expanded to meet teaching and learning needs.
From now until 2025, the Department has proposed to renovate and repair 123 high schools. In addition, the city plans to build 16 more schools, including 7 inter-level schools. The total investment for these 139 projects is VND8,873 billion.
